Actividad antidepresiva del extracto etanólico de las hojas de Manihot esculenta Cranz “yuca” en ratones

Abstract

Depression is a mood disorder characterized by feelings of sadness, with episodes lasting weeks or months, often leading to suicidal thoughts. According to the "WHO," this disease is very common worldwide, affecting more than 280 million people. Over half of those affected do not receive treatment due to a lack of resources or misdiagnosis. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the antidepressant activity of the ethanolic extract of Manihot esculenta Cranz leaves ("cassava") in mice. Methodology: The study was experimental and quantitative. The leaves were collected in the district of La Merced, Province of Chanchamayo, Department of Junín. Secondary metabolites of the ethanolic extract were identified. The antidepressant activity (AAD) was evaluated using the forced swimming test in 30 albino mice at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg of the ethanolic extract administered orally, compared to fluoxetine at 20 mg/kg. Immobility time, swimming time, and climbing time were measured over 15 minutes. Results: The lowest average immobility time was observed in the group treated with the ethanolic extract at 200 mg/kg, with 13.5 seconds, while the control group showed a significantly higher immobility time of 104.2 seconds. The swimming time was highest in the group treated with 200 mg/kg of the ethanolic extract, averaging 177.5 seconds, as was the climbing time, averaging 49.0 seconds. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract at a concentration of 200 mg/kg has antidepressant activity comparable to fluoxetine.

La depresión es un trastorno del estado de ánimo, caracterizado por el sentimiento de tristeza, con episodios que duran semanas o meses; llegando a tener pensamientos suicidas 1 . Según la “(OMS), esta enfermedad es muy frecuente en todo el mundo, afectando a más de 280 millones de personas”. Más de la mitad de afectados no reciben tratamientos; por falta de recursos o evaluaciones erróneas 2 . El presente estudio tuvo como Objetivo Evaluar la actividad antidepresiva del extracto etanólico de las hojas de Manihot esculenta Cranz - “yuca” en ratones. “La metodología utilizada fue experimental y cuantitativa.” Las hojas se recolectaron en el distrito de “la Merced, Provincia de Chanchamayo, Departamento de Junín”. Se identificó los metabolitos secundarios del extracto etanólico. Se evaluó “la actividad antidepresiva (AAD) por el método de natación forzada en 30 ratones albinos en dosis de 50, 100 y 200 mg/kg del extracto etanólico por vía oral frente a fluoxetina de 20 mg/kg, se evaluó el tiempo de inmovilidad, de nado y de escala durante 15 minutos.” “Los resultados muestran que el menor tiempo de inmovilidad promedio se observó en el grupo tratado con Ext. ETOH 200 mg/kg con 13,5 segundos, mientras el grupo control mostró un tiempo superior con 104,2 segundos; con respecto al tiempo de natación el grupo tratado con Ext.
