Empatía y agotamiento del profesional de Enfermería de áreas críticas de un Hospital de Lima, 2024

Abstract

El estudio presentó como objetivo, determinar la asociación que existe entre la empatía y el agotamiento del profesional de enfermería de áreas críticas, se enmarcó bajo una tipología básica, de enfoque cuantitativo y diseño no experimental correlacional, se tomó como muestra a 105 profesionales de enfermería del área indicada, a quienes se aplicó dos cuestionarios validados y confiables, los cuales fueron el Escala de Empatía de Jefferson y la Escala MBI de Maslach, por medio de encuesta, entre los resultados se encontró la no existencia de asociación entre empatía y agotamiento con un p=0.154 y rho= 0.140 lo que indicaba una correlación muy débil entre las variables analizadas; del mismo modo, entre la dimensión de agotamiento con empatía, tampoco se halló asociación estadística significativa (p>0.05), concluyendo bajo estos hallazgos, que el comportamiento empático hacia el paciente que pueden demostrar las enfermeras en áreas críticas, no determina que disminuya su nivel de agotamiento, esto a razón de la particularidad del servicio, puesto que son áreas donde el paciente está en estado inconsciente y requiere del cuidado enfocado en restablecer su salud, por tanto la enfermera más que desplegar sus habilidades blandas, como la empatía, hará uso de sus habilidades y competencias técnicas y científicas.

The study's objective was to determine the association between empathy and burnout in nursing professionals in critical areas. It was framed under a basic typology, with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental correlational design. A sample of 105 nursing professionals from the indicated area was taken, to whom two validated and reliable questionnaires were applied, which were the Jefferson Empathy Scale and the Maslach MBI Scale, by means of a survey. Among the results, the non-existence of an association between empathy and burnout was found with a p = 0.154> and rho = 0.140, which indicated a very weak correlation between the variables analyzed. Likewise, no significant statistical association was found between the dimensions of burnout and empathy (p>0.05). Based on these findings, it is concluded that the empathetic behavior towards patients that nurses in critical areas can demonstrate does not determine a decrease in their level of burnout. This is due to the particularity of the service, since these are areas where the patient is unconscious and requires care focused on restoring their health. Therefore, the nurse, rather than deploying her soft skills, such as empathy, will make use of her technical and scientific skills and competencies.
