The study in vitro aimed to evaluate the degree of pigmentation of a nanofilled resin with and without the application of a water-soluble gel during the photopolymerization process. Thirty resin discs measuring 6 × 2 mm were used and divided into two groups: the control group (without gel) and the experimental group (with gel), each consisting of fifteen samples with an initial standardized color of 2A. Subsequently, the resins were subjected to photopolymerization and exposed to a staining solution to assess chromatic changes. In the control group, 100% of the discs exhibited a color change from 2A to 4A, indicating marked pigmentation. In contrast, in the experimental group, all fifteen samples showed a chromatic variation from 2A to 1C, representing a smaller change towards a lighter shade. Statistical analysis using the Pearson Chi-square test revealed highly significant differences between the two groups (p = 0.000; p < 0.05), allowing the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis, confirming that the application of water-soluble gel influences the degree of pigmentation of nanofilled resin. The findings lead to the conclusion that the use of water-soluble gel during photopolymerization is an effective approach to reducing pigmentation and improving the aesthetic stability of the restorative material. Therefore, its incorporation is proposed as a clinical procedure capable of optimizing the long-term aesthetics of restorations in restorative dentistry.en_US
