Level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections and the practice of preventive measures in adolescents of the district of San Martin de Porres, 2023

Abstract

The general objective of this research study was to infer how the level of knowledge of sexually transmitted infections is related to the practice of preventive measures in adolescents in the district of San Martín de Porres, 2023. Its method was hypotheticaldeductive, quantitative approach, correlational, applied and non-experimental design. The population of this study was made up of 200 adolescents from the Palao Urbanization of the San Martin de Porres district, 2023, with the sample being 132 by means of formula. The results showed that the adolescents have a high level of 17.42%, a medium level of 80.30% and a low level of 2.27% of knowledge; This indicates that the majority has knowledge about the topic, but at an intermediate level, that is, some terms are not very clear and may generate doubts at times. Likewise, it is evident in the findings that there is a positive relationship between the variables under study, with a degree of correlation (r = 0.745), which is of a high level. It is concluded that the level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections considerably influences the practice of preventive measures that adolescents have; However, it was observed that the majority know about the subject, but in a very general way, which does not allow them to have an appropriate degree of awareness about the risk they run when starting their sexual life at such a young age.

Objetivo: Inferir como el nivel de conocimiento de las infecciones de transmisión sexual se relaciona con la práctica de medidas preventivas en adolescentes del distrito de San Martín de Porres, 2023. Material y métodos: El enfoque metodológico utilizado fue cuantitativo, no experimental, transversal. La muestra fueron 132 adolescentes de 10 a 19 años, siendo seleccionadas por criterios de inclusión y exclusión de la investigación. Para medir las características sociodemográficas, se utilizó el instrumento de cuestionario para la primera variable contenia 12 items con 5 dimensiones y para la segunda variable 8 items con 3 dimensiones y en una escala ordinal liker. en el caso de la validez de ambos instrumentos fueron tomados de las investigaciones de peralta y rojas 2022 y irriburu 2019. Asimismo, que si existe una relación positiva entre las variables en estudio, con un grado de correlación (r = 0,745), el cual es de nivel alto.
