Relationship between oral diseases and the nutritional status of children from Institución Educativa 3040 Veinte de Abril in the district of Los Olivos

This study is observational, descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional; with a correlational level. The general objective was to determine the relationship between oral diseases and nutritional status in children from the 3040 Veinte de Abril Educational Institution in the Los Olivos district. Clinical dental examinations were conducted on the students, and their height and weight were recorded to identify their nutritional status. The sample size was determined through sample calculation, with a minimum of 107 children required for a reliable study. Therefore, a sample of 153 children from the educational institution who wished to participate and had informed consent from their parents or guardians was selected. Results: The results showed that 1.3% of the children were obese, 3.3% were overweight, and 42.5% had normal nutritional status, while 52.9% were underweight. It was also found that 50.3% of the children exhibited gingival bleeding, while 49.7% did not. Regarding the prevalence of dental caries, 95.4% of the children had dental caries, and 4.6% did not. Conclusion: The children from the 3040 Veinte de Abril Educational Institution in the Los Olivos district showed a greater relationship between overweight children and gingival bleeding, normal-weight children and gingival bleeding, and underweight children without gingival bleeding.
Resumen
El presente estudio es de tipo observacional, descriptivo, prospectivo y de corte transversal; de nivel correlacional y tuvo por objetivo general determinar la relación entre las enfermedades bucales y el estado nutricional de los niños de la Institución Educativa 3040 Veinte de Abril del distrito de Los Olivos. Para ello se realizaron exámenes clínicos estomatológicos a los escolares, así también se identificó y anotó su talla y peso correspondiente. Identificando así su estado nutricional. El tamaño de la muestra se realizó por calculo muestral, determinando que se precisaba de una muestra mínima de 107 niños para la realización de un estudio confiable. Por la tanto se tomó una muestra de 153 niños concerniente a la institución educativa que desearan participar y cuenten con el consentimiento informado del padre o apoderado. Los resultados evidenciaron que el 1.3% de niños presentaron obesidad, y 3.3% presentaron niños con sobrepeso y solo el 42.5% presentó estado nutricional normal, mientras que el 52.9% presentó un bajo de peso. Así también se identificó que tratándose de sangrado gingival el 50.3% de los niños presentaron sangrado. Mientras que el 49.7% no la presentó. Por otro lado, se aprecia que tratándose de la prevalencia de la caries dental registrados en los niños, el 95.4% si presentó caries dental y un 4.6% no presentaron caries. Concluyendo que los niños de la Institución Educativa 3040 Veinte de abril del distrito de los Olivos se presentaron con mayor relación niños con sobre peso y sangrado gingival, niños con peso normal y sangrado gingival; y niños con bajo peso sin sangrado gingival.”
