Effectiveness of 70% alcohol as a method for disinfecting hospital surfaces

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Analyze the evidence on the effectiveness of 70% Alcohol to achieve low microbiological growth and adequate relative light units in bioluminescence, in the disinfection of hospital surfaces. MATERIAL AND METHOD: systematic review, observational and retrospective design, the search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the selected articles were subjected to critical reading, using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendation. RESULTS: In the selection, 08 articles were chosen, of which the results obtained show that in 62.5% (n=05/08) 70% alcohol is effective in disinfecting hospital surfaces, however 12.5% ​​( n=01/08) evidence that it is not effective and 25% (n=02/08) indicates that effectiveness could be achieved but not on all surfaces. CONCLUSIONS: The articles reviewed systematically show that disinfection with 70% alcohol is effective for disinfecting hospital surfaces.

OBJETIVO: Analizar las evidencias sobre la efectividad del Alcohol al 70 % para lograr un bajo crecimiento microbiológico y unidades relativas de luz adecuadas en la bioluminiscencia, en la desinfección de superficies hospitalarias. MATERIAL Y MÉTODO: revisión sistemática, diseño observacional y retrospectivo, la búsqueda se ha restringido a artículos con texto completo, y los artículos seleccionados se sometieron a una lectura crítica, utilizando el sistema GRADE para asignar la fuerza de recomendación. RESULTADOS: En la selección se eligieron 08 artículos, de los cuales los resultados obtenidos muestran que en el 62.5% (n=05/08) el alcohol al 70 %, es eficaz en la desinfección de superficies hospitalarias, sin embargo el 12.5 % (n=01/08) evidencia que no es eficaz y el 25% (n=02/08) indica que podría lograrse la efectividad pero no en todas las superficies. CONCLUSIONES: De los artículos revisados sistemáticamente muestran que la desinfección con alcohol al 70 % es eficaz para la desinfección de superficies hospitalarias.
