Overload and coping strategies in the primary caregiver of a patient with childhood cancer in a hospital of Lima 2023

Abstract

Objective: The objective of the study is to determine the relationship between the burden and coping strategies of the primary caregiver of patients with childhood cancer in a Hospital of Lima 2023. Materials and Methods: This research paper presents a quantitative approach; of non-experimental observational, correlational cross-sectional design will work with a population of 90 primary caregivers of children with cancer under treatment in the pediatric oncohematology service of a Hospital in Lima, the instruments called caregiver burden assessment scale and another on the coping strategies of the primary caregiver will be applied. The instruments called Caregiver Burden Assessment Scale and another on the coping strategies of the primary caregiver will be applied. Data Processing: Once the data collection is finished, the results will be displayed in tables and graphs with percentages according to each dimension, so that a comparison can be made with the background and hypotheses. The Word application will be used to write the final report and case documentation. Excel will be used to build a database. The characteristics of the population will be described by descriptive statistics (mean and percentage), which will allow us to correlate both variables of the research using the statistical tool SPSS 25, and the variables will be correlated using Spearman's correlation coefficient.

Objetivo: El objetivo del estudio es determinar la relación entre la sobrecarga y estrategias de afrontamiento del cuidador primario de pacientes con cáncer infantil en un Hospital de Lima 2023. Materiales y Métodos: Este trabajo de investigación presenta un enfoque cuantitativo; de diseño no experimental observacional, correlacional de corte transversal se trabajará con una población por 90 cuidadores primarios de niños con cáncer en tratamiento en el servicio de oncohematología pediátrica de un Hospital de Lima, se aplicará los instrumentos denominados escala de valoración de sobrecarga del cuidador y otro sobre las estrategias de afrontamiento del cuidador primario. Procesamiento de Datos: Una vez finalizada la recogida de datos, los resultados se mostrarán en tablas y gráficos con porcentajes según cada dimensión, de modo que se pueda realizar una comparación con los antecedentes y las hipótesis. La aplicación Word se utilizará para redactar el informe final y la documentación del caso. Excel se utilizará para construir una base de datos. Las características de la población se describirán mediante estadística descriptiva (media y porcentaje), que nos permitirá correlacionar ambas variables de la investigación utilizando la herramienta estadística SPSS 25, y las variables se correlacionarán mediante el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman.
