Knowledge about breastfeeding and practices of mothers with infants under 6 months of age

Abstract

Breastfeeding is considered a nutritional practice that has nutritional benefits for the newborn. Objective: Determine the relationship between knowledge about breastfeeding and practices of mothers with infants under 6 months of age in a perinatal maternal center in Lima 2023. Methodology: Quantitative, hypothetical - deductive, applied, non-experimental, correlational study. cross section applied on a sample that consisted of 90 participants, taking a questionnaire and a checklist as data collection instruments. Results: Using the KS test, it was found that the variables do not assume a normal distribution, therefore non-parametric tests were used to describe the objectives. Knowledge of breastfeeding and breastfeeding practice was found to have a (Rho .671) CI = 95% (541 - .769) and (Sig. .000). Conclusion: It is concluded that when mothers have access to accurate and complete information about the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as support to overcome any difficulties they may encounter, they are more likely to choose to breastfeed their babies appropriately.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el conocimiento sobre lactancia materna y prácticas de las madres con lactantes menores de 6 meses de edad en un centro materno perinatal de Lima 2023. Material y métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, hipotético – deductivo, aplicada, no experimental, correlacional, de corte transversal aplicado sobre una muestra que estuvo constituida por 90 participantes, tomando un cuestionario y una lista de cotejo como instrumentos de recolección de datos. Resultados: Mediante la prueba de KS se encontró que las variables no asumen una distribución normal por tanto se utilizó pruebas no paramétricas para describir los objetivos. Se encontró conocimiento de la lactancia materna y práctica lactancia materna arrojó una (Rho ,671) IC = 95% (541 - ,769) y (Sig. .000).
