Level of knowledge and attitudes about the risks of bisphosphonates in dental treatment in surgeons dentists Lima 2022

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to identify the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding the risks of bisphosphonates in dental treatment among dentists in Lima, 2022. The approach was quantitative with a deductive method, involving 108 professionals working in the southern districts of Lima. The technique used was a survey, and questionnaires were applied and validated through expert judgment. It was found that most dentists (51.9%) had a high level of knowledge about bisphosphonates and the risks they pose in dental treatment, with higher knowledge observed in females (29.6%). Positive attitudes towards bisphosphonates were also observed (63%), especially in females (37%). The majority of dentists with up to 5 years of professional experience had a medium level of knowledge about the risks of bisphosphonates in dental treatment (24.1%). It was concluded that knowledge and attitudes regarding bisphosphonates are related to the risks in dental treatment.

El propósito del estudio fue identificar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y actitudes acerca de los riesgos de los bisfosfonatos en el tratamiento odontológico en cirujanos dentistas Lima 2022. El enfoque fue cuantitativo con un método deductivo donde participaron 108 profesionales que laboran en los distritos del sur de la ciudad de Lima. La técnica utilizada fue la encuesta y se aplicaron cuestionarios los cuales fueron sometidos a validación por juicio de expertos. Se encontró que la mayoría de cirujanos dentistas (51,9%) tienen un alto nivel de conocimiento sobre los bisfosfonatos y el riesgo que representan en el tratamiento odontológico, siendo mayor este conocimiento en el sexo femenino (29,6%). También se demostró la presencia de actitudes favorables hacia los bisfosfonatos (63%), especialmente en el sexo femenino (37%). La mayoría de los cirujanos dentistas con hasta 5 años de experiencia laboral tenían un nivel de conocimiento medio acerca de los riesgos de los bisfosfonatos en el tratamiento odontológico (24,1%). Se concluye que el conocimiento y la actitud acerca de los bisfosfonatos están relacionados con el riesgo en el tratamiento odontológico.
