Relationship between the level of knowledge about complementary feeding and nutritional status in children from 6 to 12 months in the Collique III health center, Comas 2023

Abstract

General objective: Determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about complementary feeding and nutritional status in children from 6 to 12 months at the Collique III Health Center, Comas 2022. Methodology: Quantitative method, non-experimental, transversal and correlational design. The sample was made up of 120 mothers with their respective children aged 6 to 12 months treated at the Collique III Health Center, located in Comas. A validated and reliable questionnaire was used as an instrument to evaluate the level of knowledge about complementary feeding, while the WHO growth charts were used to evaluate nutritional status. Results: the average age was 26.56 years. 75% (n=117) completed secondary school. Regarding the age of the children, 28.8% (n=45) were 8 months old. Knowledge about complementary feeding, 80.1% (n=125) was regular. Regarding the start dimension, 71.2% (n=111) were regular, in the characteristics dimension, 60.3% (n=94) were regular and in the type of food dimension, 55.1% (n=86) was deficient, while, in the food hygiene dimension, 79.5% (n=124) was regular. 57.1% (n=89) were of normal weight, 24.4% (n=38) were overweight, 10.3% (n=16) were underweight and 8.3% (n=13) ) were obese. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge about complementary feeding and nutritional status in children from 6 to 12 months in the Collique III Health Center, Comas 2023.

Objetivo general: Determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimientos sobre alimentación complementaria y estado nutricional en niños de 6 a 12 meses en el Centro de Salud Collique III zona, Comas 2022. Metodología: Método cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, transversal y correlacional. La muestra se conformó por 120 madres con sus respectivos niños de 6 a 12 meses atendidos en el Centro de Salud Collique III zona, ubicado en comas. Se empleó un cuestionario validado y confiable como instrumento para evaluar el nivel de conocimiento sobre alimentación complementaria, mientras que la evaluación del estado nutricional se utilizó las tablas de crecimiento de la OMS. Resultados: la edad promedio fue 26,56 años. El 75%(n=117) tuvieron secundaria completa. En cuanto a la edad de los hijos, 28,8%(n=45) tuvieron 8 meses. Los conocimientos sobre alimentación complementaria, el 80,1%(n=125) fue regular. En cuanto a la dimensión inicio, el 71,2%(n=111) fue regular, en la dimensión características, el 60,3%(n=94) fue regular y en la dimensión tipo de alimentos, el 55,1%(n=86) fue deficiente, mientras que, en la dimensión higiene de alimentos, 79,5%(n=124) fue regular. El 57,1%(n=89) tuvieron peso normal, el 24,4%(n=38) tuvieron sobrepeso, el 10,3%(n=16) tuvieron bajo peso y el 8,3%(n=13) tuvieron obesidad. Conclusión: Existe relación significativa entre el nivel de conocimientos sobre alimentación complementaria y estado nutricional en niños de 6 a 12 meses en el Centro de Salud Collique III zona, Comas 2023.
