Effectiveness of telephone triage to improve patient satisfaction for those requiring urgent or emergency care

Abstract

Objective: To synthesize the evidence on the effectiveness of telephone triage in improving the satisfaction of patients requiring urgent or emergency care. Materials and Methods: This is a Systematic Review based on 10 articles found in the following databases: Cochrane Library, Lilacs, Pubmed, Epistemonikos, Intramed, which were analyzed using the GRADE system to determine their strength and quality of evidence. Of the 100% (10/10) of the evidence analyzed, 30% come from Canada, 20% from Australia, and 10% from the United States, Norway, the Netherlands, Lisbon, and Madrid, respectively. These correspond to the systematic review methodological design in 50% (5/10), 20% (2/10) quasi-experimental, and another 10% (meta-analysis, cross-sectional, and prospective cohort). Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 80% (8/10) demonstrate the effectiveness of telephone triage in improving the satisfaction of patients requiring urgent or emergency care. Conclusion: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 8 demonstrate the effectiveness of telephone triage in improving the satisfaction of patients requiring urgent or emergency care.

Objetivo: Sintetizar las evidencias sobre la efectividad del triaje telefónico para mejorar la satisfacción de pacientes que requieren atención de urgencia o emergencia. Materiales y métodos: Se trata de una Revisión Sistemática que tiene como población de 10 artículos que se encontraron las siguientes bases de datos: Revista Cochrane, Lilacs, Pubmed, Epistemonikos, Intramed, los cuales fueron analizados en el sistema GRADE, para determinar su fuerza y calidad de evidencia. Del 100% (10/10) de evidencias analizadas, el 30% proceden de Canadá, el 20% de Australia y el 10% de Estados Unidos, Noruega, países bajos, Lisboa y Madrid respectivamente, que responden al diseño metodológico de revisión sistemática en un 50% (5/10), 20% (2/10) cuasiexperimental,y otros 10% (metaanálisis, transversal y cohorte prospectivamente). Resultados: Del total de 10 artículos revisados, el 80 % (8/10) evidencian la efectividad del triaje telefónico para mejorar la satisfacción de pacientes que requieren atención de urgencia o emergencia. Conclusión: De los 10 artículos revisados, 8 evidencian la efectividad del triaje telefónico para mejorar la satisfacción de pacientes que requieren atención de urgencia o emergencia.
