Relationship between periodontal diseases and the gingival biotype in patients attended in the dentistry clinic of the Norbert Wiener Private University, Lima 2018 - 2019

Abstract

The present study is descriptive and retrospective in nature, with the general objective of determining the relationship between periodontal diseases and gingival biotype in patients treated at the Norbert Wiener Private University Dental Clinic in Lima, 2018-2019. A total of 314 medical records of patients treated at the Norbert Wiener Private University Dental Clinic were evaluated. Data on periodontal disease, gingival biotype, age, and gender were identified and recorded in a data collection form. The information was processed using the chi-square statistical test. The results showed that the highest prevalence of periodontal disease was in the form of periodontitis (66.2%). Periodontal disease, gingivitis, and periodontitis were found to be similar in both male and female genders. The prevalence of gingivitis decreased with increasing age, while periodontitis became more prevalent with age. The gingival biotype, both thick and thin scalloped, was similar between genders. The prevalence of gingival biotype was very similar across all ages, with the highest prevalence of gingivitis and periodontitis observed in the thin gingival biotype. The study concluded that there is a relationship between periodontal diseases and gingival biotype in patients treated at the Norbert Wiener Private University Dental Clinic in Lima, 2018-2019.

El “presente estudio es de tipo descriptivo, retrospectivo que tuvo por objetivo general determinar la relación entre las enfermedades periodontales y el biotipo gingival en pacientes atendidos en la clínica odontológica de la Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener. Lima 2018 – 2019 Para ello se evaluaron 314 Historias clínicas de pacientes atendidos en la clínica odontológica de la Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener. Identificando los datos de enfermedad periodontal, biotipo gingival, edad y género para luego ser anotado a la ficha de recolección de datos. La información se procesó con la prueba estadística de chi cuadrado. En los resultados se encontraron que la mayor prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal se presenta en forma” de periodontitis con un 66.2%, que la enfermedad periodontal, gingivitis y periodontitis, se presenta muy similar en el género masculino y femenino, que la prevalencia de la gingivitis va disminuyendo conforme la edad avanza, “mientras que la periodontitis se hace más prevalente a mayor edad, que el biotipo gingival, festoneado grueso y festoneado delgado, se presentan muy similar en el género masculino y femenino, que la prevalencia de biotipo gingival es muy similar en todas las edades y que la mayor prevalencia de gingivitis y periodontitis se presenta en el biotipo gingival delgado. Concluyendo que si hay relación entre las enfermedades periodontales y el biotipo gingival en pacientes atendidos en la clínica odontológica de la Universidad Privada Norbert” Wiener.
