School bullying and self-esteem in high school students of an educational institution

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between school bullying and selfesteem in high school students from an educational institution in San Juan de Lurigancho. The methodology: it was quantitative and correlational design. The sample will be composed of 100 high school students from 1st to 5th year and of both sexes. Instruments adapted to the Peruvian context will be used, such as the school bullying questionnaire and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. According to the results based on the national and international background, a statistically significant relationship between bullying and self-esteem is expected, this relationship should be inverse; that is, the more bullying behaviors, the lower the self-esteem perspective presented by high school students. Likewise, according to the social problem, a predominance of the high level of bullying and a predominance of the low level of self-esteem is expected. In conclusion, it is important to carry out this study, since it provides updated data on the problems that afflict students within a regular basic institution.

Este estudio tiene como objetivo: determinar la relación del bullying escolar y autoestima en estudiantes de secundaria de una institución educativa de San Juan de Lurigancho. La metodología: fue de tipo cuantitativa y de diseño correlacional. La muestra estará compuesta por 100 estudiantes de secundaria del 1ro al 5to año y de ambos sexos. Se usará instrumentos adaptados al contexto peruano como el cuestionario de bullying escolar y la escala de autoestima de Rosenberg. Según los resultados en base a los antecedentes nacionales e internacionales, se espera una relacione estadísticamente significativa entre el bullying y la autoestima, dicha relación deberá ser inversa; es decir, a mayores comportamientos de bullying, menor será la perspectiva de autoestima que presente el estudiante de secundaria. Asimismo, de acuerdo con la problemática social, se espera una predominancia del nivel alto de bullying y una predominancia del nivel bajo en autoestima. En conclusión, es importante realizar este estudio, ya que brinda datos actualizados sobre la problemática que aqueja a los alumnos dentro de una institución básica regular.
