Knowledge level about iron-deficiency anemia in mothers of children under 2 years old visiting a first-level health center in Rímac - 2019

Abstract

Objective: Determine the level of knowledge about iron deficiency anemia in mothers of children under 2 years of age who attend a first-level health post, Rímac - 2019. Material and method: This study is quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional. The population was 107 mothers of children under 2 years of age who came for care at the first level health post in the Rímac district, they met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The survey technique was used for data collection, and the instrument was a 20-item questionnaire. Results: The result was that in the level of knowledge of mothers of children under 2 years of age, 35.5% (38) had a low level of knowledge and 29% (31) showed a high level of knowledge. In the dimensions, regarding the level of basic knowledge about anemia, the medium level of knowledge predominated (61.7%) and in the dimension of knowledge about the nutritional preparation of foods rich in iron to address iron deficiency anemia, the low level of knowledge predominated (38.3%). %). Conclusions: The level of knowledge about iron deficiency anemia of mothers of children under 2 years of age was low and medium; and in the dimension where the greatest deficiency of knowledge is observed is in the nutritious preparation of foods rich in iron to address iron deficiency anemia.

Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de conocimiento sobre anemia ferropénica en madres de niños menores de 2 años que acuden a un puesto de salud de primer nivel, Rímac - 2019. Material y método: Este estudio es cuantitativo, descriptivo de corte transversal. La población fue de 107 madres de familia de niños menores de 2 años que acuden a atenderse en el puesto de salud de primer nivel en el distrito del Rímac, ellas cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Se utilizó la técnica de la encuesta para la recolección de datos, y el instrumento fue un cuestionario de 20 ítems. Resultados: Se obtuvo como resultado que en el nivel de conocimiento de las madres de niños menores de 2 años el 35.5% (38) tuvo un nivel de conocimiento bajo y el 29% (31) mostraron nivel de conocimiento alto. En las dimensiones, respecto al nivel de conocimiento básico sobre anemia predomino el nivel de conocimiento medio (61.7%) y en la dimensión de conocimiento sobre la preparación nutritiva de alimentos ricos en hierro para abordar la anemia ferropénica predomino el nivel de conocimiento bajo (38.3%). Conclusiones: El nivel de conocimiento sobre anemia ferropénica de las madres de niños menores de 2 años fueron los de nivel bajo y medio; y en la dimensión donde se observa mayor deficiencia de conocimiento es en el de preparación nutritiva de alimentos ricos en hierro para abordar la anemia ferropénica.
