Evaluation of the distance between the lower dental canal and the apices of the lower molars in cone beam computed tomography. Lima 2023

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the average distance between the inferior dental canal and the apices of the lower molars in cone beam computed tomography scans, Lima 2023. The methodology used was deductive, with a quantitative approach, basic type, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective design. The study sample consisted of 80 tomography scans from patients aged 20 to 50 years from the 'Imágenes' Radiological Center. Measurements were made using the ICAT VISION tomography software. The results showed that the average distance from the inferior dental canal to the mesial and distal apex of the first lower molar was 5.52 ± 2.21 mm and 5.05 ± 2.27 mm, respectively; for the mesial and distal apex of the second lower molar, it was 3.46 ± 2.19 mm and 2.77 ± 2.02 mm, respectively. It was concluded, using the Mann-Whitney U test, that there were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in the average distances of the first lower molar between the left and right sides, and similarly for the second lower molar between the left and right sides. Regarding sex, no significant differences were found (p > 0.05); however, for the age group, the Kruskal-Wallis H test indicated significant differences (p ≤ 0.05).

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la distancia promedio entre el conducto dentario inferior a los ápices de las molares inferiores en tomografías computarizadas de haz cónico. Lima 2023. La metodología empleada fue deductivo, de enfoque cuantitativo, tipo básico, de diseño observacional, descriptiva, transversal y retrospectiva; la muestra del estudio estuvo conformada por 80 tomografías de pacientes entre 20 a 50 años del Centro Radiológico “Imágenes”; las mediciones se realizaron mediante el software tomográfico ICAT VISION. Los resultados indicaron que la distancia promedio del conducto dentario inferior al ápice de la raíz mesial y distal de la primera molar inferior fue de 5,52 ± 2,21 mm y 5.05 ± 2.27 mm respectivamente; respecto al ápice de la raíz mesial y distal de la segunda molar inferior fue de 3,46 ± 2,19 mm y 2,77 ± 2,02 mm respectivamente. Se concluyó, mediante la prueba U de Mann – Whitney que no existe diferencias significativas (p > 0.05) en las distancias promedio de la primera molar inferior entre el lado izquierdo y derecho, igualmente para la segunda molar inferior entra lado izquierdo y derecho; en cuanto al sexo se determinó que no existe diferencia significativa (p>0.05); caso contrario fue con el grupo de edades que mediante la prueba de H de Kruskal – Wallis se indicó que existen diferencias significativas (p≤0.05).
