Effectiveness of combination therapy in disease control in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Materials and Methods: A systematic observational and retrospective review of the articles reviewed, subjected to an analysis using the GRADE evaluation system to identify the degree of evidence, found in the following databases: Google Scholar, SciELO, Medline, and PubMed. In the selection, 10 articles were chosen, of which 20% (2/10) correspond to the methodological design of systematic reviews, another 20% (2/10) are of the cohort design, and randomized clinical trials, while only 10% (1/10) corresponds to the designs of quasi-experimental, pre-experimental, quasi-experimental, and case-control studies. Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 50% (N=5/10) show the effectiveness of physical activity, 20% (N=2/10) show the effectiveness of diet therapy, another 20% (N=2/10) show the effectiveness of a combined therapy (pharmacotherapy, diet therapy, and physical activity), and only 10% (N=1/10) show the effectiveness of diet therapy and physical activity in patients with type II diabetes mellitus for disease control. Conclusions: It can be concluded, according to the selected scientific articles, that combined therapy (pharmacological, nutritional, and physical activity therapy) is effective for disease control in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.

Materiales y métodos: Revisión sistemática observacional y retrospectiva de los artículos revisados, sometidos a un análisis, utilizando el sistema de evaluación GRADE para identificar el grado de evidencia, encontrándolos en las siguientes bases de datos: Google Académico, SciELO, Medline y PubMed. En la selección se eligieron 10 artículos, de los cuales el 20% (2/10) corresponde al diseño metodológico de revisiones sistemáticas, otro 20% (2/10) son del diseño metodológico cohorte y del diseño de ensayos clínicos aleatorizados, mientras que solo un 10% (1/10) corresponde a los diseños de estudios cuasi-experimentales, pre-experimentales, cuasi-experimentales y caso-control. Resultados: De los 10 artículos revisados, el 50% (N=5/10) muestran una efectividad de la actividad física, un 20% (N=2/10) muestran una efectividad de la dietoterapia, otro 20% (N=2/10) muestran una efectividad de una terapia combinada (farmacoterapia, dietoterapia y actividad física) y solo un 10% (N=1/10) muestra una efectividad de la dietoterapia y actividad física en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo II para el control de la enfermedad. Conclusiones: Se puede concluir, de acuerdo con los artículos científicos seleccionados, que la terapia combinada (terapia farmacológica, nutricional y actividad física) es efectiva para el control de la enfermedad en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo II.
