Academic stress and academic procrastination in high school students of a private educational institution in Huaycán – 2023

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between academic stress and academic procrastination in secondary school students from a private institution in Huaycán – 2023. The study had a quantitative approach, basic type, correlational level, with a non-experimental cross-sectional design; the sample consisted of 121 secondary school students aged 12 to 17 years, who were administered the SISCO Inventory for academic stress and the Academic Procrastination Scale. Pearson's coefficient and Spearman's rho were used to test the hypotheses. The results showed a negative, significant, and low-level correlation between academic stress and academic procrastination in secondary school students from Huaycán (r=-0.234; p=0.010<0.05). This means that as academic stress levels increase, students are less likely to exhibit procrastinatory behaviors.

La investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre estrés académico y procrastinación académica en estudiantes de nivel secundaria de una institución educativa privada en Huaycán – 2023. El estudio fue de enfoque cuantitativo, tipo básico, nivel correlacional, diseño no experimental y de corte transversal; siendo una muestra de 121 estudiantes de nivel secundaria de 12 a 17 años a quienes se les aplicó el Inventario SISCO del estrés académico y la Escala de procrastinación académica; utilizándose el coeficiente de Pearson y la rho de Spearman para comprobar las hipótesis. Los resultados evidencian que existe una correlación negativa, significativa y de nivel bajo entre el estrés académico y procrastinación académica en estudiantes de nivel secundaria, Huaycán (r=-0.234; p=0.010<0.05). Esto significa que, a mayores niveles de estrés académico, los estudiantes no presentarán conductas procrastinadoras.
