Stress level and coping strategies in relatives of patients in the Intensive Care Unit of a Hospital in Lima, 2022

Abstract

The intensive care unit is a high-demand area within hospital facilities due to the type of patients who are referred there, which is why nursing professionals who work in this context take on multiple tasks to carry out their mission of humanized care with patients and also with family members, in order to reduce the stress generated by the uncertain situation they are going through. Despite this, it has been detected that nurses are often not prepared to assume these actions of support to family members, making it necessary to investigate this matter in order to take improvement actions. Objective: to determine the relationship between the level of stress and coping strategies of family members of patients in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Lima, 2022. Materials and methods: It will be a quantitative, applied, non-experimental and cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study. 50 family members of patients treated in intensive care will participate. The technique will be the survey. A questionnaire will be applied to measure stress and the Coping Process Measurement Scale. The nonparametric Spearman's Rho test will be used to analyze the data.

La unidad de cuidados intensivos es un ámbito de alta demanda dentro de las instancias hospitalarias debido al tipo de pacientes que son derivados ahí, es por ello que los Enfermería que laboran en este contexto asumen múltiples tareas para desplegar su misión de cuidados humanizados con pacientes y también con familiares, a fin de reducir el estrés que se genera por la situación incierta que atraviesan. A pesar de ello, se ha podido detectar que los enfermeros muchas veces no se encuentran preparados para asumir estas acciones de apoyo a los familiares, siendo necesario investigar al respecto para tomar acciones de mejora. Objetivo: determinar cuál es la relación entre nivel de estrés y estrategias de afrontamiento de los familiares de pacientes de la unidad de cuidados intensivos de un hospital de Lima, 2022. Materiales y métodos: Será un estudio cuantitativo, aplicado, no experimental y transversal, descriptivo-correlacional. Participarán 50 familiares de los pacientes atendidos en cuidados intensivos. la técnica será la encuesta. Se aplicará un cuestionario para medir el estrés y la Escala de Medición del Proceso de Afrontamiento. Para analizar los datos se empleará la prueba no paramétrica de Rho de Spearman.
