The objective of this research was to determine the level of oral health knowledge among the parents of school children who attend the pediatric dentistry department of the Central Military Hospital "Coronel Luis Arias Schreiber" in Lima, Peru, in 2017. The sample was obtained using the minimum sample size method for a finite population, consisting of 200 parents who brought their children to the pediatric dentistry service at the Central Military Hospital. A questionnaire on oral health knowledge was administered to them. The results showed that 39% of the population had a good level of knowledge. It was clarified that 42.5% of fathers had a regular level of knowledge, while 45.7% of mothers had a good level of knowledge about oral health. On the other hand, 20.5% of fathers with a regular level of knowledge had a secondary education level, while 33.9% of mothers with a good level of knowledge about oral health had technical or higher education. In conclusion, the parents of school children who attend the pediatric dentistry department of the Central Military Hospital "Coronel Luis Arias Schreiber" have a good level of knowledge about oral health.
Resumen
El presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo general determinar el nivel de conocimiento sobre salud bucal de los padres de niños escolares que asisten al departamento de odontopediatría del Hospital Militar Central “Coronel Luis Arias Schreiber en Lima, Perú 2017. La muestra fue obtenida mediante tamaño mínimo muestral en población finita, la cual estuvo conformada por 200 padres de familia que llevaban a sus hijos al servicio de odontopediatría del Hospital Militar Central, a quienes se les realizó un cuestionario de nivel de conocimiento sobre salud bucal. Obteniéndose como resultado que el 39% de la población posee un nivel de conocimiento bueno. Aclarando que el 42,5% de padres poseen un nivel de conocimiento regular y que el 45,7% de madres poseen un nivel de conocimiento bueno sobre salud bucal. Por otro lado, el 20,5% de los padres con un nivel de conocimiento regular tienen un grado de instrucción nivel secundario, mientras que el 33,9% de madres con un nivel de conocimiento bueno sobre salud bucal tienen un grado de instrucción técnica o superior. Con lo cual se concluye que los padres de niños escolares que asisten al departamento de odontopediatría del Hospital Militar Central “Coronel Luis Arias Schreiber poseen un nivel de conocimiento bueno sobre salud bucal.
