Functional capacity and its relationship with the risk of falls of the older adult attending the San Genaro de Villa Health Center in the district of Chorrillos, Lima 2022

Abstract

With the general objective of analyzing the relationship of functional capacity with the risk of falls in the elderly who attend the San Genaro de Villa Health Center in the Chorrillos District, Lima 2022. The research has a quantitative approach, the research has a scope correlational, the research design is cross-sectional, 150 older adults from the San Genaro de Villa Health Center in the Chorrillos District have been considered. The instrument was composed of the Barthel Index, Lawton and Brody Scales and Tinetti Test with the survey technique. The distribution of sociodemographic frequencies of the elderly at the San Genaro de Villa Health Center in the Chorrillos District indicates that the female sex is the majority in this study with 63.33% and the male sex is 36.67%; the marital status shows us that the majority are widowed with 46.67%, separated with 27.33%, cohabiting with 17.33% and married with 8.67%; the space of residence indicates that the majority is in an urban area with 80% and rural with 20%. The functional capacity with the risk of falls, it has to be that there is serious dependency with less risk of falls in 29.5%. The functional capacity in its dimension basic activities with the risk of falls, it is found that there is severe dependence with moderate risk of falls in 16.7%. The functional capacity in its dimension instrumental activities with the risk of falls, it is found that there is severe dependence with moderate risk of falls in 18%. The functional capacity in its instrumental gait dimension with the risk of falls, there is a serious dependency with a lower risk of falls in 18.7%. All outcomes were measured using crosstabulation and Spearman's correlation.

Objetivo: Analizar la relación de la capacidad funcional con el riesgo de caídas del adulto mayor que asiste al Centro de Salud San Genaro de Villa del Distrito de Chorrillos. Material y métodos: El diseño de la investigación es no experimental y transversal, donde se desarrolla con base en la teoría y tiene como objetivo aplicarla prácticamente solo en un área determinada. Es transversal porque es uso de una unidad de tiempo para aplicar la recolección de datos y el conocimiento de aplicación de la teoría al fenómeno en estudio, La población está compuesta por 180 personas de la tercera edad del Centro de Salud San Genaro de Villa del Distrito de Chorrillos, basados en los datos de población del DIRIS Sur estimada para el año 2022, los entrevistados se seleccionaron según el criterio de inclusión y exclusión dada en este trabajo
