Functional capacity and risk of falls in patients of adults major attention in the center of residential care Geronto Geriátrico Ignacia Rodulfo Viuda de Canevaro, in the Rímac district, 2018

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between functional capacity and the risk of falls in elderly patients treated at the Geronto Geriatric Residential Care Center Ignacia Rodulfo Viuda de Canevaro in the district of Rímac, 2018. Method: The study approach was quantitative, correlational, with a population and sample of 100 elderly adults. The data collection technique was based on the application of questionnaire-type instruments, such as the Barthel Index created by Mahoney and Barthel, and the fall risk scale created by J.H Downton. Results: There is a relationship between functional capacity and the risk of falls in elderly patients. The Chi-square test (value = 0.002) was used, and the results showed that 63% (63) had mild dependence, 21% (21) had moderate dependence regarding basic daily living activities. Of the former, 50.7% (35), and of the latter, 27.5% (19) showed a high risk of falls. The most affected dimension was that which required minimal physical help to move, with 50%, followed by walking and climbing stairs with 53% and 55%, respectively.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre la capacidad funcional y riesgo de caídas en pacientes adultos mayores atendidos en el Centro de Atención Residencial Geronto Geriátrico Ignacia Rodulfo Viuda de Canevaro en el distrito del Rímac, 2018. Método: El enfoque del estudió fue cuantitativo, correlacional, la población y muestra estuvo constituida por 100 adultos mayores, la técnica de recolección de datos se enmarco en la aplicación de instrumentos tipo cuestionarios, como el Índice de Barthel que fue creado por Mahoney y Barthel y la escala de riesgo, creado por J.H Downton. Resultados: Existe relación entre la capacidad funcional y el riesgo de caídas en pacientes adultos mayores, se utilizó la prueba de (Chi cuadrado o valor: = 0,002), cuyos resultados fueron que el 63% (63) tiene una dependencia ligera, el 21% (21) tiene dependencia moderada con respecto a las actividades básicas de la vida diaria, de los primeros, el 50.7% (35), del segundo el 27.5% (19) presentaron alto riesgo en caídas y la dimensión más afectada la íntegra aquellas que necesitan mínima ayuda física para trasladarse con un 50%, luego deambular y subir escalones con un 53% y 55% respectivamente.
