Coping strategies in mothers of newborns with congenital malformations in the Intermediate Neonatology Service III, National Maternal Perinatal Institute, Lima – 2019

Abstract

Objective: Determine the coping strategies in mothers of newborns with congenital malformations of the Intermedios III Neonatology Service, National Maternal Perinatal Institute, Lima – 2019. Material and method: The study method is quantitative, the design is descriptive and cutting. transversal. The study worked with the total population, with the participation of 94 mothers of newborns with congenital malformations from the Intermedios III Neonatology Service, National Maternal Perinatal Institute who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, respectively. The data collection technique was the survey and the data collection instrument used was the 28-item COPE-28. Results: Regarding coping strategies in mothers of newborns with congenital malformations, we found that 80.9% have moderately adequate coping and 19.1% have inadequate coping. Regarding the dimension focused on the problem, 74.5% have moderately adequate coping, followed by 25.5% who have adequate coping. Regarding the dimension focused on emotion, 61.7% have inadequate coping, followed by 38.3% who have moderately adequate coping. Conclusions: In the coping strategies of the participating mothers, moderately adequate coping predominated, followed by inadequate coping; Regarding the dimensions, the one that presented the best coping strategy was in the problem-focused dimension.

Objetivo: Determinar las estrategias de afrontamiento en madres de recién nacidos con malformaciones congénitas del Servicio de Neonatología Intermedios III, Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal, Lima – 2019. Material y método: El método del estudio es el cuantitativo, el diseño es descriptivo y de corte trasversal. En el estudio se trabajó con la población total, contando con la participación de 94 madres de recién nacidos con malformaciones congénitas del Servicio de Neonatología Intermedios III, Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, respectivamente. La técnica de recolección de datos fue la encuesta y el instrumento de recolección de datos utilizado fue COPE-28 de 28 ítems. Resultados: En cuanto a las estrategias de afrontamiento en madres de recién nacidos con malformaciones congénitas, encontramos que el 80,9% tienen un afrontamiento medianamente adecuado y el 19,1% tienen un afrontamiento inadecuado. En cuanto a la dimensión centrado en el problema, el 74,5% tienen un afrontamiento medianamente adecuado, seguido del 25,5% que tienen un afrontamiento adecuado. En cuanto a la dimensión centrado en la emoción, el 61,7% tienen un afrontamiento inadecuado, seguido del 38,3% que tienen un afrontamiento medianamente adecuado. Conclusiones: En las estrategias de afrontamiento de las madres participantes, predominó el afrontamiento medianamente adecuado, seguido de afrontamiento inadecuado; en cuanto a las dimensiones, la que presentó una mejor estrategia de afrontamiento fue en la dimensión centrado en el problema.
