Relationship between spiritual perspective and resilience in cancer patients at a general hospital, Lima – 2018

Abstract

The focus of the study was quantitative, non-experimental design, correlational type, and cross-sectional. The sample was made up of 254 oncology participants based on pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria, to whom the Pamela Reed Spiritual Perspective Scale and Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale instruments were applied. It was obtained that the patients were characterized by having high levels of spiritual perspective (98.4%) and high resilience (100%), in addition, both variables obtained a statistically significant correlation (rho = 0.301; p ≤ 0.000). There is a moderate directly proportional relationship between spiritual perspective and resilience.

El enfoque del estudio fue cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, tipo correlacional, y corte transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 254 participantes oncológicos en base a criterios de inclusión y exclusión preestablecidos, a quienes se les aplicó los instrumentos Escala de la Perspectiva Espiritual de Pamela Reed y Escala de Resiliencia de Wagnild y Young. Se obtuvo que los pacientes se caracterizaron por tener niveles altos de perspectiva espiritual (98.4%) y resiliencia alta (100%), además, ambas variables obtuvieron una correlación estadísticamente significativa (rho = 0,301; p ≤ 0,000). Existe una relación directamente proporcional moderada entre la perspectiva espiritual y resiliencia.
