Emotional intelligence and its relationship with humanized care in students of the intensive care specialty at Norbert Wiener University, Lima March – 2019

Abstract

Objective: Determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and humanized care in students of the intensive care specialty at Norbert Wiener University. Lima –2019. Material and Method: The method is quantitative, cross-sectional correlational, we worked with a population of 97 students from the intensive care specialty of the Norbert Wiener University. The data collection technique was the survey, the instrument; Trait Emotional Intelligence questionnaire (Short Version) (TEIQue-SF), for Humanized Care, the Caring Ability inventory (CAI) questionnaire proposed by Ngozi Nkongho in 1990. Results: The level of emotional intelligence was obtained in 96.9% of the students of the intensive care specialty at the Norbert Wiener University, Lima; they show average emotional intelligence; and other students high with 3.1%. At the Humanized Care level, 73.2% of the students in the intensive care specialty show a medium level, while 26.8% show a high level. Conclusions: There is a direct correlation between emotional intelligence and humanized care in students of the intensive care specialty at the Norbert Wiener University, Lima, 2019, which means that the emotional stability of the nurse has an impact on the humanized care towards patients.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre inteligencia emocional y el cuidado humanizado en los estudiantes de la especialidad de cuidados intensivos de la Universidad Norbert Wiener. Lima –2019. Material y Método: El método es cuantitativo, correlacional de corte trasversal, se trabajó con una población de 97 estudiantes de la especialidad de cuidados intensivos de la Universidad Norbert Wiener. La técnica de recolección de datos fue la encuesta, el instrumento; cuestionario Inteligencia Emocional Rasgo (Versión Corta) (TEIQue-SF), para Cuidado Humanizado, el cuestionario Caring Hability inventory (CAI) propuesto por Ngozi Nkongho en 1990. Resultados: El nivel de inteligencia emocional se obtuvo que el 96.9% de los estudiantes de la especialidad de cuidados intensivos de la Universidad Norbert Wiener, Lima; muestran inteligencia emocional media; y otros estudiantes alta con el 3.1%. En el nivel de Cuidado Humanizado el 73.2% de los estudiantes de la especialidad de cuidados intensivos muestran un nivel medio, mientras que el 26.8 % un nivel alto. Conclusiones: Existe una correlación directa entre inteligencia emocional y el cuidado humanizado en estudiantes de la especialidad de cuidados intensivos de la Universidad Norbert Wiener, Lima, 2019, lo que significa que la estabilidad emocional del enfermero repercute en el cuidado humanizado hacia los pacientes.
