Level of knowledge about diabetes and its relationship with diabetic ketoacidosis in patients with diabetes mellitus in the emergency area of the emergency hospital of Villa El Salvador, 2023

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global public health problem, and one of its main complications is diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), whose occurrence is higher in people who are unaware of the care and aspects of prevention and control of DM. The objective of this study is to: "Evaluate the relationship between the level of knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus and diabetic ketoacidosis in patients with diabetes mellitus treated in the emergency area of Hospital Emergency Villa el Salvador during the year 2023." The study method will be hypothetical deductive, with a quantitative approach, type of basic research, non-experimental design, correlational and cross-sectional level, it will be carried out in the months from to April- December 2023, where 90 patients will participate. with a diagnosis of DM, treated in the emergency area, that meet the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. For the data collection, the DKQ-24 instrument will be applied, which will measure the level of knowledge about DM, which is valid in Peru by expert judgment led by García, in addition, clinical criteria will be used to identify DKA. The instrument will be administered in person, prior acceptance of informed consent. The value of the Odds Ratio will be calculated as a measure of the strength of the relationship between the variables and it will be considered a significant relationship when a probability value of less than 0.05 is obtained. The calculations will be executed in the SPSS version 24 program.

La Diabetes Mellitus (DM) es un problema de salud pública mundial, y una de sus principales complicaciones es la Cetoacidosis diabética (CAD). El presente estudio tiene por objetivo: “Evaluar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento sobre Diabetes Mellitus y la cetoacidosis diabética en pacientes con diabetes mellitus atendidos en el área de emergencia del Hospital de Emergencias de Villa el Salvador durante el año 2023”. El método de estudio será hipotético deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, tipo básico, de diseño no experimental, nivel correlacional de corte transversal, se llevará a cabo en los meses de abril- diciembre del 2023, donde participarán 90 pacientes con diagnóstico de DM, atendidos en el área de emergencia, que cumplan criterios de inclusión y exclusión establecidos. Para la recolección de datos se aplicará el instrumento DKQ-24 que medirá el nivel de conocimiento sobre DM, el cual presenta validez en Perú por prueba piloto, se emplearán criterios clínicos para la identificación de la CAD. El instrumento será administrado de manera presencial, previa aceptación del consentimiento informado. Se calculará el valor del Odds Ratio, entre las variables y se considerará como relación significativa cuando se obtenga un valor de p<0.05. Los cálculos serán ejecutados en el programa SPSS
