Knowledge and management of perioperative hypothermia in a surgical center of a hospital in Lima, 2022

Abstract

Perioperative hypothermia is defined as a decrease in body temperature to less than 36°C during surgery. The surgical process carries many risks for the patient, one of which is perioperative hypothermia. It is said that 50% of surgical patients show some degree of hypothermia, with 44% experiencing intraoperative hypothermia. The decrease in temperature occurs as a result of the loss of the patient's central heat-regulating mechanisms, caused by the surgical agents and the exposure of the patient's skin to the low temperatures of the surgical environment. This hypothermia leads to many complications in post-anesthesia recovery, as many studies indicate, including surgical wound infections, delayed wound healing, increased bleeding, and cardiovascular alterations. This research will be conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between knowledge and management of perioperative hypothermia in the Surgical Center of a hospital in Lima, 2022. The type of research will be applied and correlational. The population is 90, and the sample will consist of the entire population: 90 nursing professionals working in the Surgical Center of the hospital in Lima. For data collection, two instruments will be applied: the "Knowledge about perioperative hypothermia" questionnaire, consisting of 10 questions, and a "Checklist for managing hypothermia," consisting of 12 items.

La hipotermia perioperatoria, se define como la disminución de la temperatura corporal a menos de 36 °C durante el acto quirúrgico. El proceso quirúrgico supone muchos riesgos para el paciente, entre ellos, la hipotermia perioperatoria, se dice que un 50 % de los pacientes quirúrgicos muestran algún grado de hipotermia y un 44 % corresponde a hipotermia intraoperatoria. La disminución de la temperatura es un suceso que ocurre como efecto de la pérdida de los mecanismos reguladores del calor central del paciente producido por los agentes y por mantener expuesto la piel del paciente a la baja temperatura de centro quirúrgico. Esta hipotermia, ocasiona muchas complicaciones en la recuperación post anestésica, como lo dicen muchos estudios, por ejemplo, infección de la herida operatoria, retraso para cicatrizar la herida, incremento del sangrado y alteraciones cardiovasculares. La presente investigación se realizará con el objetivo de determinar la relación que existe entre conocimientos y manejo de la hipotermia perioperatoria en Centro Quirúrgico de un Hospital de Lima, 2022. El tipo de investigación será de tipo aplicada, correlacional, la población 90, la muestra estará constituida por el total de la población: 90 profesionales de enfermería que laboran en Centro Quirúrgico del hospital de Lima. Para la recolección de datos, se aplicará dos instrumentos: Cuestionario de “Conocimientos sobre hipotermia perioperatoria”, consta de 10 preguntas y una “Lista de cotejo sobre manejo de la hipotermia”, consta de 12 ítems.
