Knowledge and attitudes in the face of a large-magnitude earthquake in the emergency service nurses of the regional hospital of Huacho, 2021

Abstract

Introduction: Hospital systems are at the core of disaster resilience because they must provide timely critical healthcare services to communities during an emergency response. As cities are becoming larger and more densely populated, natural disasters are affecting public health on a larger scale. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards a large-magnitude earthquake in emergency nurses at the Huacho Regional Hospital, 2021 Materials and methods: The approach will be quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional and correlational design. The population will be made up of nursing professionals from the emergency area of the Huacho Regional Hospital. According to the hospital's human resources office, there are currently 30 nursing professionals rotating through said service. The research will work with the entire population, called a census sample. The technique to be used is the survey. The knowledge questionnaire consists of 20 items and 3 dimensions (disaster risk management, preparation and response process, earthquakes). The instrument for assessing attitudes is a Likert-type scale with 20 items and 3 dimensions (cognitive attitude, psycho-emotional attitude, behavioural attitude). Both were subject to the judgment of 4 experts, whose rating was good on average. Regarding reliability, a pilot test was applied to 15 participants with similar characteristics, obtaining a Kuder Richardson index value (KR 20) equal to 0.82 for both instruments.

Introducción: Los sistemas hospitalarios son el núcleo de la resiliencia ante desastres porque deben brindar servicios de atención médica críticos oportunos a las comunidades durante una respuesta de emergencia. Debido a que las ciudades son cada vez más grandes y más densamente pobladas, los desastres naturales están afectando la salud pública a mayor escala. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre los conocimientos y actitudes ante un sismo de gran magnitud en enfermeras de emergencia del Hospital Regional de Huacho, 2021 Materiales y métodos: el enfoque será cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, transversal y correlacional. la población estará conformada por los Enfermería del área de emergencia del Hospital Regional de Huacho. Según la oficina de recursos humanos del hospital, actualmente se cuenta con 30 Enfermería que rotan por dicho servicio. en la investigación se trabajará con el total de la población, denominándose muestra censal. la técnica a utilizar es la encuesta. El cuestionario de conocimientos consta de 20 ítems y 3 dimensiones (gestión de riesgo de desastres, proceso de preparación y respuesta, sismos). El instrumento para evaluar las actitudes, es una escala tipo Likert, con 20 ítems y 3 dimensiones (actitud cognoscitiva, actitud psicoemocional, actitud conductual). Ambos fueron sometidos a juicio de 4 expertos, cuya calificación fue buena en promedio. Respecto a la confiabilidad, se aplicó una prueba piloto a 15 participantes con características similares, obteniéndose un valor de índice de Kuder Richardson (KR 20) igual a 0,82 para ambos instrumentos.
