Emotional dependence and self-esteem in high school students of I.E.P. Guillermo Mercado Barroso, Arequipa – 2022

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional dependence and self-esteem in high school students at a private institution in Arequipa. The method followed was the hypothetical-deductive method, a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The study consisted of 80 high school students from a private educational institution in Arequipa. The instruments used were the Emotional Dependence Scale (ACCA) by Anicama et al. (2013) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (EAR) by Rosenberg (1965). The research results indicated that there is no significant relationship between the study variables, as the calculated p-value was greater than 0.05 (0.473); thus, it is concluded that there is no significant inverse relationship between emotional dependence and self-esteem in high school students at a private educational institution in Arequipa.

El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre la dependencia emocional y la autoestima en estudiantes de secundaria de una institución privada de Arequipa. El método que se siguió fue el método hipotético – deductivo, cuantitativo de diseño no experimental transversal y correlacional, el estudio estaba constituido por 80 estudiantes de secundaria de una institución educativa particular de la ciudad de Arequipa. Los instrumentos que se utilizaron fueron La escala de dependencia emocional ACCA de Anicama et al. (2013) y la escala de autoestima de Rosenberg (EAR) de Rosenberg 1965. Los resultados de la investigación fueron que no existe relación significativa entre las variables de estudio, debido a que, el p-valor calculado fue mayor a 0.05 (0.473); concluyendo así que, no existe relación significativa e inversa entre la dependencia emocional y la autoestima en estudiantes de secundaria de una institución educativa privada de Arequipa.
