Perception of body image and self-care of the patient with diabetic foot in the outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Trujillo

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between body image perception and self-care among patients with diabetic foot who attend the outpatient clinic of the public hospital in Trujillo - 2023. Materials and methods: The method used during the study will be hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach, applied type, correlational scope, and a non-experimental cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 49 users with diabetic foot in the outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Trujillo. A survey will be applied through a questionnaire divided into three parts: the first, for general data; the second, on body image perception; and the third, regarding patient self-care, developed by Morales M. in 2019 for Peruvian patients with diabetic foot. It consists of 28 items for the first variable and 40 for the second. Subsequently, data will be analyzed through descriptive and inferential analysis using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. If the data are normally distributed, the parametric Pearson correlation coefficient test will be applied; otherwise, the non-parametric Spearman's Rho test will be used. This will allow the research objectives to be addressed, leading to the conclusions of the study.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre la percepción de la imagen corporal y el autocuidado de pacientes con pie diabético que acuden a consultorio externo del hospital público de Trujillo - 2023. Material y método: El método que se utilizará durante el estudio será hipotético - deductivo, mediante un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo aplicada, alcance correlacional y de diseño no experimental de corte transversal, la muestra que lo constituye es de 49 usuarios con pie diabético del consultorio externo de un hospital público de Trujillo, se aplicará una encuesta mediante un cuestionario dividido en tres partes: la primera, para datos generales; la segunda sobre la percepción de la imagen corporal; y la tercera, referida al autocuidado del paciente, elaborado por Morales M. en el año 2019 para pacientes peruanos con pie diabético. Consta de 28 ítems para la primera variable y 40 para la segunda. Posteriormente los datos serán analizados mediante el análisis descriptivo e inferencial mediante la prueba de Kolmogorov – Smirnov, si los datos se distribuyen de manera normal se aplicará la prueba paramétrica del coeficiente de correlación de Pearson o por el contrario si los datos no se distribuyen de manera normal se aplicará la prueba no paramétrica de Rho de Spearman. De tal modo se responderá a los objetivos planteados hasta llegar a las conclusiones de la investigación.
