Stigma towards HIV among healthcare professionals at the Cori Clinic, Los Olivos, 2019

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the knowledge, perceptions and behaviors regarding HIV in the health professional at the Cori clinic, Los Olivos – 2019. The design of this research was cross-sectional. The sample of this research was made up of 70 professionals from the Cori Clinic, among whom were nursing graduates, general practitioners, specialist doctors and other health professionals, between 20 years old and 62 years old. The CCPC Questionnaire (Knowledge, Perceptions and Behavior Questionnaires for Health Professionals) was applied to collect the required information. Regarding the first objective, the results showed that health professionals do not have specific knowledge about Law No. 26626. Regarding the second objective, minimal stigmatizing perfections towards patients with HIV/AIDS were reflected. Finally, in the third objective, it was found that the majority of health professionals presented positive behavior towards the care of a PLWHA (People Living with the AIDS Virus). In terms of perceptions and behaviors, irrational fear of the risk of transmission of the virus during healthcare was evident.

Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar los conocimientos, percepciones y conductas frente al VIH en el profesional de salud de la clínica Cori, Los Olivos – 2019. El diseño de esta investigación fue de tipo descriptivo transversal. La muestra de esta investigación se conformó por 70 profesionales de la Clínica Cori entre los cuales se encontraban licenciados en Enfermería, médicos generales, médicos especialistas y otras profesionales de salud, entre los 20 años y 62 años. Se aplicó el Cuestionario CCPC (Cuestionarios de conocimiento, percepciones y conductas para profesionales de la salud) para recolectar la información requerida. En cuanto al primer objetivo los resultados evidenciaron que los profesionales de la salud no poseen conocimientos concretos sobre la ley N° 26626. Referente al segundo objetivo, se reflejaron mínimas perfecciones estigmatizantes hacia pacientes con VIH/SIDA. Finalmente, en el tercer objetivo se encontró que los profesionales de salud en su mayoría presentaron una conducta positiva frente a la atención de una PVVS (Personas Viviendo con el Virus del SIDA). En cuanto a percepciones y conductas se evidenció miedo irracional al riesgo de transmisión del virus durante la atención sanitaria.
