Creation and validation of an instrument to measure the level of knowledge on oral health in children aged five and six years at the 5083 Educational Institution, San Martín de Porres, Callao 2019

Abstract

Objective: To validate an instrument for measuring the level of knowledge about oral health in children aged five and six years at I.E. 5083 San Martin de Porres-Callao in 2019. Materials and Methods: This was an observational, prospective, descriptive, and cross-sectional study. Data collection was conducted through a survey using a valid and reliable instrument. Results: Content validity was achieved through a literature review, resulting in an 11-item instrument. These items were evaluated using Aiken's V, scoring 0.9 in expert judgment, which led to the removal of one question. The instrument underwent an initial reliability test with 10 questions, yielding a result of "<0.60," prompting the removal of question 8. A second pilot test was conducted, achieving a reliability score of "0.74," demonstrating the instrument’s reliability. The validated instrument was then applied to a sample of 184 children aged 5 and 6 years at I.E. 5083 San Martin de Porres in Lima-Callao, revealing a medium level of knowledge among the students. Conclusion: The instrument for measuring the level of knowledge about oral health in children aged 5 and 6 years is valid and reliable.

Objetivo: Validar un instrumento para medir nivel de conocimiento sobre salud bucal en niños de cinco y seis años, en el I.E. 5083 San Martin de Porres-Callao, en el año 2019. Material y métodos: Estudio de tipo observacional, prospectivo, descriptivo y transversal, como técnica de recolección de datos se usó la encuesta, con un instrumento válido y confiable. Resultado: Se realizó la validez de contenido con revisión bibliográfica, construyendo un instrumento compuesto por 11 ítems. Estos ítems pasaron por la V de Aiken, obteniendo una puntuación de 0.9 en el juicio de expertos y la eliminación de una pregunta. El instrumento pasó su primera prueba de fiabilidad con 10 preguntas dando un resultado “< a 0.60”, se eliminó la pregunta 8 y se realiza la prueba piloto por segunda vez. En dicha prueba se obtuvo un resultado de “0.74”, demostrando la fiabilidad del instrumento. Finalmente se aplicó el instrumento validado en una muestra de 184 niños de entre 5 y 6 años de edad de la I.E 5083 San Martin de Porres Lima-Callao, obteniendo como resultado un nivel de conocimiento medio en sus estudiantes. Conclusión: El instrumento para medir el nivel de conocimiento sobre salud bucal en niños de 5 y 6 años, es válido y confiable.
