Perception of the culture of patient safety and quality management of care in the nursing professional of the adult emergency service of the Hospital Dos de Mayo, 2023

Abstract

The present study aimed to determine the relationship between the perception of patient safety culture and quality care management in nursing professionals working in the adult emergency service at Hospital Dos de Mayo in 2023. Methodologically, the study followed a hypothetical-deductive, applied, quantitative, cross-sectional, non-experimental, and correlational design. The study included a population of 70 participants, and the sample was comprised of 70 participants selected through a census method. Questionnaires were used as instruments to assess each variable. The results showed that 81.4% of the participants were female, 35.7% were aged between 31 and 40 years, 41.4% were cohabiting, and the majority (30.0%) had a work experience of 4 to 5 years. Furthermore, 52.9% of the participants had a good perception of safety culture, and 57.1% exhibited good quality care management. Statistically, it was observed that the dimensions of work area, management direction, primary care, communication, and events were significantly related to quality care management (r=0.691; r=0.696; r=0.686; r=0.761; and r=0.501, respectively), with a significance level of less than 5% in all cases. It was concluded through the Rho Spearman test and through the SPSS v26 statistical program that there is a positive and significant relationship between the perception of patient safety culture and quality care management with a p.value equal to 0.000 and a Rho value equal to 0.738, therefore, as the perception of the patient's safety culture improves, so does the quality management of care provide by nursing staff.

El presente trabajo tuvo por objetivo: determinar la relación entre la percepción de la cultura de seguridad del paciente y la gestión de calidad del cuidado en el profesional de enfermería del servicio de emergencia adulto del Hospital Dos de Mayo 2023. Metodológicamente se desarrolló como hipotético deductivo, aplicado, cuantitativo, transversal, no experimental y correlacional, conformado por 70 participantes como población y la muestra se integró por 70 participantes seleccionados de forma censal, mientras que como instrumento serán aplicados cuestionarios por cada variable. Los resultados el 81.4% era del género femenino, el 35.7% tenía entre 31 a 40 años, el 41.4% era conviviente y el tiempo laboral fue de 4 a 5 años mayoritariamente en un 30.0%, además, la cultura de seguridad fue buena en un 52.9% y la gestión de la calidad del cuidado fue buena en un 57.1%, estadísticamente, se comprobó que las dimensiones área de trabajo, dirección, atención primaria, comunicación y suceso se relacionaron significativamente con la gestión de la calidad del cuidado (r=0.691; r= 0.696, r=0.686, r=0.761y r=0.501) con una significancia menor al 5% en todos los casos. Se concluyó a través de la prueba de Rho Spearman y mediante el programa estadístico SPSS v26 que existe relación positiva y significativa entre la percepción de la cultura de seguridad del paciente y la gestión de calidad del cuidado con un p.valor igual a 0.000 y un valor Rho igual a 0.738, por tanto, a medida que la percepción de la cultura de seguridad del paciente mejora, también lo hace la gestión de calidad del cuidado proporcionado por el personal de enfermería.
