Knowledge and practice in the prevention of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation of the nursing professional in the intensive care unit of the Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho Lima - Peru 2022

Abstract

Introduction: mechanical ventilation is one of the essential processes to treat emergency cases such as respiratory deficiency, but at the same time it is a risk since poor management can bring problems such as pneumonia due to mechanical ventilation. Objective: To determine how knowledge is related to the practices of nursing workers regarding preventive measures to avoid pneumonia that are caused by the use of mechanical ventilators. Methods: the work is developed with a quantitative method of applied type, in the same way there will be the confirmed participation of 60 workers from the nursing area who work in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital investigated. This participation will be through the resolution of a questionnaire that measures their knowledge on the subject and an observation guide to measure the level of their preventive practices, where these instruments have validity and reliability, in addition relevant information will be obtained from the study sample to evaluate the variables, which will be processed by the SPSS statistical program that will provide both descriptive and inferential statistical results, One of the tests that will be used in this analysis will be the Spearman correlation, which is designed to measure the degree of relationship between the variables which will help us with a confidence of 95% to test our study hypotheses or to be able to conclude based on it.

Introducción: la ventilación mecánica es uno de los procesos esenciales para tratar casos de emergencia como lo es la deficiencia respiratoria, pero a su vez es un riesgo ya que un mal manejo puede traer problemas como la neumonía por ventilación mecánica. Objetivo: Determinar cómo el conocimiento se relaciona con las prácticas de los trabajadores del área de enfermería en cuanto a las medidas preventivas para evitar las neumonías que son causadas por el uso del ventilador mecánico. Métodos: el trabajo se desarrolla con un método cuantitativo de tipo aplicado, de igual manera se contará con la participación confirmada de 60 trabajadores del área de enfermería que laboran en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del hospital investigado. Dicha participación será a través de la resolución de un cuestionario que mide su conocimiento sobre el tema y una guía de observación para medir el nivel de sus prácticas preventivas, donde dichos instrumentos presentan validez y confiabilidad, además se obtendrá con ellos una información relevante de la muestra de estudio para evaluar las variables, lo cual será procesado por el programa estadístico SPSS que brindará resultados estadísticos tanto descriptivos como inferenciales, una de las pruebas que se utilizarán en este análisis será la correlación de Spearman, la cual está diseñada para medir el grado de relación entre las variables lo que nos ayudará con una confianza del 95% a comprobar nuestras hipótesis de estudio o poder concluir en base a ello.
