Comparison of the soft tissue profile between Caucasian and mixed-race Peruvians evaluated using the Powell, Legan, and Burstone analysis during the 2015-2017 period. Lime. Peru.

Abstract

This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach and a descriptive-retrospective design. The population consisted of 1500 radiographs and lateral photographs of mestizo Peruvians aged 18 to 40 years from the Radiological Center Imágenes between 2015 and 2017. Using inclusion and exclusion criteria, 60 participants were randomly selected (30 men and 30 women). Measurements were taken using the Nemoceph software, and the data was recorded in a data collection sheet and processed with SPSS v26. Normal distribution and variance homogeneity were determined (Shapiro-Wilk). The Student’s t-test was applied with a 95% confidence level. Statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found in 3 of the 5 measurements of the Powell analysis: Naso Frontal Angle, Naso Mental Angle, and Mental Cervical Angle with p-values of 0.001, 0.04, and 0.001, respectively. Statistically significant differences were also found in all 7 measurements of the Legan and Burstone analysis: Facial Convexity Angle, Mandibular Protrusion, Maxillary Protrusion, Vertical Height Ratio, Neck Angle and Lower Third of the Face, Vertical Height and Depth Ratio of Lower Face, and Naso Labial Angle, with p-values of 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.02, 0.001, 0.001, and 0.03, respectively. Additionally, significant statistical differences were found in the soft tissue profile of mestizo Peruvians evaluated using the Powell, Legan, and Burstone analysis by sex.

Estudio transversal con enfoque cuantitativo y diseño descriptivo-retrospectivo; población conformada por 1500 radiografías y fotografías laterales de peruanos mestizos entre 18 a 40 años del Centro Radiológico Imágenes en el periodo 2015-2017; mediante criterios de inclusión y exclusión se seleccionaron aleatoriamente 60 (30 varones y 30 mujeres); se realizaron las mediciones utilizando el software Nemoceph y los valores se pasaron a una ficha de recolección de datos, procesándose con el programa estadístico SPSS v26, se determinó distribución normal y homogeneidad de varianzas (Shapiro-Wilk), se aplicó la prueba t de Student con un nivel de confianza de 95%. Se encontró diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p<0,05) en: 3 de las 5 mediciones del análisis de Powell: Ángulo Naso Frontal, Ángulo Naso Mental y Ángulo Mento Cervical con valores p de 0,001; 0,04 y 0,001 respectivamente; en las 7 mediciones del Análisis de Legan y Burstone: Ángulo de la Convexidad Facial, Protrusión Mandibular, Protrusión Maxilar, Relación de Altura Vertical, Ángulo de Cuello y Tercio Inferior de Cara, Relación de Altura y Profundidad Vertical Inferior, y Ángulo Naso Labial con valores p de 0,001; 0,001; 0,001; 0.02; 0.001; 0,001 y 0,03 respectivamente; además, se encontró diferencias estadísticamente significativas del perfil de tejidos blandos entre peruanos mestizos evaluados mediante el análisis de Powell, Legan y Burstone, según sexo.
