Relationship between learning styles and academic performance in the students of the EAP Dentistry of the Norbert Wiener University, Lima- 2019.

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between learning styles and academic performance among students of the Dentistry Program at Norbert Wiener University. Methods: This was a correlational study with a quantitative approach and prospective design. The sample was probabilistic and selected through simple random sampling, consisting of 166 students from the 3rd to the 9th cycle. The instrument used for data collection was the Learning Styles Inventory by Metts Ralph, which comprises a total of 24 statements, as well as the weighted average of each student. Results: Students with a visual learning style had a weighted average of 13.77, those with an auditory learning style had an average of 13.97, and those with a kinesthetic learning style had an average of 13.78. The minimum weighted average was observed in the visual style group, while the maximum average was seen in the auditory style group.

El objetivo del presente trabajo es conocer la relación entre el estilo de aprendizaje y el rendimiento académico en los estudiantes de la E.A.P Odontología de la Universidad Norbert Wiener. Métodos: Investigación correlacional de enfoque cuantitativo y de tipo prospectivo. La muestra fue probabilística y por aleatorio simple, conformada por 166 alumnos que se encontraban entre el 3er y 9no ciclo. El instrumento utilizado para la recolección de datos fue: Inventario de estilos de aprendizaje de Metts Ralph, el cual está constituido por un total de 24 enunciados; y el promedio ponderado de cada estudiante. Resultados: Aquellos que tuvieron estilo visual presentaron un promedio ponderado de 13,77; los que tuvieron un estilo auditivo un promedio ponderado de 13,97 y los que tenían un estilo kinestésico un promedio ponderado de 13,78. El promedio ponderado mínimo se observó en el grupo con estilo visual y el promedio ponderado máximo en el grupo con estilo Auditivo.
