Knowledge and practices of complementary feeding in mothers with children from 6 to 24 months from the Conchán health center, 2021

Abstract

The nutritional status of the child is closely linked to the knowledge and practices that the mother carries out during the feeding process; Consequently, deficient knowledge will lead to inappropriate feeding practices, even more so in children from 6 to 24 months of age, where energy-protein requirements increase drastically. In this sense, to reduce the risk of alterations in the growth (low weight, acute malnutrition, short stature, anemia, etc.) and development (risk or delay in development) of the child, it is necessary to promote adequate complementary feeding of according to age. The objective of the study was “to determine the association between knowledge and complementary feeding practices in mothers of children from six to 24 months at the Conchan Health Center, 2021”; quantitative approach, relational and cross-sectional design; to be carried out with 66 mothers from the Conchán Health Center. The technique to be used will be a survey and as an instrument a questionnaire consisting of 25 items (knowledge = 15 and practices = 10) that will determine the knowledge and complementary feeding practices that mothers have.

El estado nutricional del niño está estrechamente vinculado a los conocimientos y a las prácticas que desempeña la madre durante el proceso de alimentación; en consecuencias, conocimientos deficientes llevarán a prácticas inadecuadas de alimentar, más aún en los niños de 6 a 24 meses de edad, donde los requerimientos energético-proteico aumenta drásticamente. En tal sentido, para disminuir el riesgo de alteraciones en el crecimiento (bajo peso, desnutrición aguda, talla baja, anemia, etc.) y desarrollo (riesgo o retraso en el desarrollo) del niño, es necesario se promueva una alimentación complementaria adecuada de acuerdo a edad. El estudio se planteó como objetivo “determinar la asociación entre los conocimientos y las prácticas de alimentación complementaria en madres de niños de seis a 24 meses en el Centro de Salud de Conchan, 2021”; de abordaje cuantitativo, diseño relacional y de corte transversal; a llevarse a cabo con 66 madres del Centro de Salud Conchán. La técnica a utilizar será una encuesta y como instrumento un cuestionario que consta de 25 ítems (conocimiento= 15 y prácticas = 10) que permitirá determinar los conocimiento y prácticas de alimentación complementaria que tienen de las madres.
