Effectiveness of polyhexanide-betadine use to reduce healing time and bacterial load in the cleaning of chronic wounds

Abstract

The observational and retrospective systematic reviews: The search was restricted to full-text articles, and the selected articles were subjected to a critical reading, using the GRADE evaluation to identify their level of evidence. Results: In the final selection, 11 reviewed articles located in the PubMed and SciELO databases were chosen. These articles demonstrate that the use of polyhexanide-betaine is effective in the cleaning of chronic wounds: it reduces healing time, bacterial load, and pain. Conclusions: The reviewed studies provide evidence of the effectiveness of polyhexanide-betaine, as it provides favorable conditions for cleaning chronic wounds: it reduces inflammatory signs, bacterial load, and pain, accelerating the healing process.

Las revisiones sistemáticas observacional y retrospectivo, la búsqueda se ha restringido a artículos con texto completo, y los artículos seleccionados se sometieron a una lectura crítica, utilizando la evaluación GRADE para identificar su grado de evidencia. Resultados: En la selección definitiva se eligieron 11 artículos revisados ubicados en las bases de datos PubMed y Scielo, los mismos evidencian que, el uso de polihexanida-betaina es efectivo en la limpieza de heridas crónicas: reduce el tiempo de cicatrización, la carga bacteriana y el dolor. Conclusiones: Se evidencio en las investigaciones revisadas la efectividad de la polihexanida-betaina debido a que proporciona condiciones favorables en la limpieza de heridas crónicas: disminuye signos inflamatorios, carga bacteriana y el dolor acelerando el proceso de la cicatrización.
