Sociodemographic characteristics and adherence to vaccination schedules in children under 2 years old at the Peru III Zone Health Center – San Martín de Porres, January to March 2018

Abstract

Objective: The present investigation seeks to determine the sociodemographic characteristics and compliance with the vaccination schedule of children under 2 years of age of the C.S. Peru III Zone – San Martín de Porres from January to March 2018. Materials: It is a descriptive study, its design is non-experimental with cross-section. The sample is made up of 280 mothers who attended the immunization service in the months of January to March 2018. Regarding the instrument, a questionnaire was used. Results: Regarding the sociodemographic data of mothers with children under 2 years of age from the C.S. Peru III Zone of the San Martin de Porres district, 61.4%, which corresponds to 172 mothers, have a marital status of cohabitant; 66.8%, corresponding to 187 mothers, are housewives; 47.9%, which corresponds to 134 mothers, are between 31 and 45 years old; 70.0%, corresponding to 196 mothers, are from the coast; and 68.6%, corresponding to 192 mothers, have a secondary education degree. Furthermore, with respect to compliance, 58.6%, which corresponds to 164 children under 2 years of age, have an incomplete vaccination schedule; while 41.4%, corresponding to 116 children under 2 years of age, have the complete vaccination schedule. Conclusion: The mothers in the study are adults with a level of basic education, so many of them do not have jobs and are only dedicated to being housewives and, finally, more than half of them do not comply with the vaccination schedule.

Objetivo: La presente investigación busca determinar las características sociodemográficas y el cumplimiento del esquema de vacunación de niños menores de 2 años del C.S. Perú III Zona – San Martín de Porres de enero a marzo del 2018. Materiales: Es un estudio descriptivo, su diseño es de tipo no experimental con corte transversal. La muestra está constituida por 280 madres que asistieron al servicio de inmunizaciones en los meses de enero a marzo del 2018, en cuanto al instrumento se utilizó un cuestionario. Resultados: Con respecto a los datos sociodemográficos de las madres con niños menores de 2 años del C.S. Perú III Zona del distrito de San Martin de Porres, el 61.4%, que corresponde a 172 madres, tiene un estado civil de conviviente; el 66.8%, correspondiente a 187 madres, son amas de casa; el 47.9%, que corresponde a 134 madres, tiene una edad entre 31 a 45 años; el 70.0%, correspondiente a 196 madres, son procedentes de la costa; y el 68.6%, correspondiente a 192 madres, tiene grado de instrucción secundaria. Además, con respecto al cumplimiento, el 58.6%, que corresponde a 164 niños menores de 2 años, tiene el esquema de vacunación incompleto; mientras que el 41.4%, correspondiente a 116 niños menores de 2 años, tienen el esquema de vacunación completo. Conclusión: Las madres en estudio son adultas con un grado de instrucción básica por lo que muchas de ellas no cuentan con empleo y solo se dedican a ser amas de casa y, por último, más de la mitad de ellas incumplen el calendario de vacunación.
