Fear and anxiety regarding COVID-19 in residents of a vulnerable area in Los Olivos, Lima - 2021

Abstract

Objective: The objective was to determine the relationship between fear and anxiety regarding COVID-19, in residents of a vulnerable area in Los Olivos, Lima-2021. Materials and methods: The present study was approached from a quantitative approach, with a correlational-cross-sectional design. The sample was made up of 130 participants. The data collection technique was the survey and the instrument used to measure the variables was the COVID-19 fear scale and the COVID-19 anxiety scale. Results: Regarding the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and anxiety, it was observed that there is a strong, directly proportional significant relationship (p < 0.5); Regarding the relationship between fear of COVID-19 in its emotional fear reactions dimension with anxiety, there is a significant direct proportional moderate relationship (p < 0.5); Finally, regarding the relationship between fear of COVID-19 in its dimension, somatic expressions of fear, and anxiety, there is a significant, strong directly proportional relationship (p < 0.5).

Objetivo: El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre el miedo y ansiedad ante el COVID-19, en pobladores de una zona vulnerable en Los Olivos, Lima-2021. Materiales y métodos: El presente estudio fue abordado desde el enfoque cuantitativo, de diseño correlacional-transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 130 participantes. La técnica de recolección de datos fue la encuesta y el instrumento empleado para medir las variables fue la escala de miedo al COVID-19 y la escala de ansiedad por COVID-19. Resultados: En cuanto a la relación entre el miedo al COVID-19 y ansiedad se pudo observar que existe una relación significativa directamente proporcional fuerte (p < 0,5); en cuanto a la relación entre el miedo al COVID-19 en su dimensión reacciones al miedo emocional con la ansiedad existe una relación significativa directamente proporcional moderada (p < 0,5); finalmente en cuanto a la relación entre el miedo al COVID-19 en su dimensión expresiones somáticas de miedo con la ansiedad existe una relación significativa directamente proporcional fuerte (p < 0,5).
