Effectiveness of antibiotics in peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis

Abstract

Objective: To analyze and systematize the evidence on the efficacy of antibiotics in peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis. Materials and Methods: The study type was quantitative with a systematic review design. The population consisted of 25 articles, and the sample was 10 published scientific articles. The instrument used was a search in databases such as Scielo, Cochrane Plus, Pubmed, Medline, and Epistemonikos. The GRADE system was used for article evaluation, assessing the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations. Results: 80% of the studies report efficacy, while 20% found them ineffective. Conclusions: 8 out of 10 articles were effective in reducing future complications through the use of first-line, broad-spectrum antibiotics that covered both gram-negative and gram-positive organisms. These antibiotics were easy to administer and did not cause adverse effects. 2 out of 10 articles concluded that antibiotics were not effective, as no superior treatments were identified that could reduce the disease.

Objetivo: Analizar y sistematizar las evidencias sobre la eficacia de los antibióticos en peritonitis asociada a diálisis peritoneal. Materiales y Métodos: El tipo de estudio fue cuantitativo con el diseño de Revisión sistemática de una población que estuvo constituida de 25 artículos y la muestra fue de 10 artículos científicos publicados; cuyo instrumento fue búsqueda en base de datos: Scielo, Cochrane Plus, Pubmed, Medline y Epistemonikos, para la evaluación de los artículos se utilizó el sistema GRADE el cual evaluó la calidad de evidencia y la fuerza de recomendación. Resultados: El 80% de los estudios refieren que es eficaz y el 20% que no fue eficaz. Conclusiones: 8 de 10 artículos fue eficaz, reduciendo futuras complicaciones mediante el uso de antibióticos de primera línea y de amplio espectro, es decir cubrieron a organismos gram-negativos y gram-positivos, siendo de fácil administración, que no carecieron de efectos adversos y 2 de 10 artículos concluye que no fue eficaz, porque no se identificaron tratamientos con antibióticos superiores y que fueran capaz de reducir la enfermedad.
