Abstract

Currently, early stimulation in infants under one year of age is gaining greater importance, as during this period, their brain develops much of its potential. This should be fostered, considering that 13% of the total population are infants under one year old, and insufficient knowledge among mothers regarding early stimulation could lead to problems in their growth and development. The present research study, titled "Knowledge of Adolescent Mothers on Early Stimulation for Infants under One Year of Age in the CRED Service at San Bartolomé Hospital, May-August 2011," aimed to determine the level of knowledge of adolescent mothers regarding early stimulation for infants under one year of age. It is a quantitative study with a descriptive method and a cross-sectional design. A non-probabilistic intentional sampling method was used; the sample size consisted of 70 mothers included in the study. The technique employed was the interview, with a questionnaire as the instrument, which was validated through expert judgment and subjected to a pilot test for statistical reliability. Subsequently, the data collection was carried out, and the data were processed to be presented in statistical graphs for analysis and interpretation, leading to the following conclusion: adolescent mothers of infants under one year of age attending the CRED service have an average level of knowledge regarding early stimulation activities.

Actualmente, la estimulación temprana en lactantes menores de un año cobra mayor importancia, ya que durante ese período su cerebro desarrolla gran parte de su potencial. Eso se debe favorecer, ya que el 13 % de la población total son lactantes menores de un año, y el conocimiento insuficiente de las madres con respecto a la estimulación temprana podría ocasionar problemas en su crecimiento y desarrollo. El presente estudio de investigación, titulado Conocimiento de las madres adolescentes sobre estimulación temprana del lactante menor de un año en el servicio de CRED del Hospital San Bartolomé, período mayo-agosto 2011, tuvo como objetivo determinar el nivel de conocimiento de las madres adolescentes sobre estimulación temprana del lactante menor de un año. Es un estudio de tipo cuantitativo, con método descriptivo, de corte transversal. Se utilizó un muestreo no probabilístico de selección intencional; tamaño muestral de 70 madres incluidas en el estudio. La técnica utilizada fue la entrevista, con el cuestionario como instrumento, que fue validado mediante el juicio de expertos y sometido a una prueba piloto para la confiabilidad estadística. Posteriormente, se realizó la recolección de datos propiamente dicha, y luego estos fueron procesados para ser presentados en gráficos estadísticos para su análisis e interpretación, llegándose a la siguiente conclusión: las madres adolescentes de lactantes menores de un año que acuden al servicio de CRED tienen un nivel de conocimiento medio de las actividades de estimulación temprana.
