Nursing intervention for the prevention of urinary infections associated with urinary catheter use

Abstract

Objectives: Systematize and analyze the evidence on nursing intervention for the prevention of urinary infections associated with the use of urinary catheter. Materials and Methods: It was a quantitative research and the design was a systematic review Results: the evidence showed that there would not only be a single intervention but several together to achieve the prevention of urinary infections associated with the use of urinary catheter, through a protocol that unites all actions aimed at achieving said objective; considering: the material to be used, biosafety measures, duration of the bladder catheters and necessary indication for the installation of the bladder catheter. Conclusions: implement and use standardized protocols, control the improper use of the bladder catheter and verify its indication; reduce the permanence of the urinary catheter; implement a training and continuing education plan and only implement an audit.

Objetivos: Sistematizar y analizar las evidencias sobre la intervención de enfermería para la prevención de infecciones urinarias asociado a uso de catéter urinario. Materiales y Métodos: Fue una investigación cuantitativa y el diseño fue una revisión sistemática Resultados: las evidencias mostraron que no sólo se tendría una sola intervención sino varias en conjunto para lograr la prevención de las infecciones urinarias asociadas al uso de catéter urinario, a través de un protocolo que una todas las acciones encaminadas a lograr dicho objetivo; considerándose: el material a usar, medidas de bioseguridad, tiempo de la permanencia de los catéteres vesicales e indicación necesaria para la instalación del catéter vesical. Conclusiones: implementar y usar protocolos estandarizados, controlar el uso indebido del catéter vesical y verificar su indicación; disminuir la permanencia del catéter urinario; implementar un plan de capacitación y educación continua y solo implementar una auditoria.
