Critical review: Nutritional intervention with turmeric in patients with diabetes mellitus

Abstract

This secondary study is titled Critical Review: Nutritional Intervention with Turmeric in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus. The aim was to identify scientific evidence regarding the effects of nutritional intervention in diabetic patients. The clinical question was: Does nutritional intervention with turmeric have positive effects on patients with diabetes mellitus? The methodology used was based on Evidence-Based Nutrition (EBN). Information was gathered from databases such as Pubmed, Embase, Scielo, Dialnet, Scopus, and Google Scholar, resulting in 183 articles, of which 30 were selected for evaluation using CASPE. Two articles were then selected: the first was a literature review, and the second was a meta-analysis, both related to the research objective. Both articles have an AI level of evidence and a strong recommendation grade, according to the researcher’s experience.

El presente estudio secundario se titula Revisión crítica: intervención nutricional con cúrcuma en pacientes con diabetes mellitus. Se buscó identificar la evidencia científica acerca de los efectos de la intervención nutricional en pacientes diabéticos. La pregunta clínica fue: ¿La intervención nutricional con cúrcuma tiene efectos positivos en pacientes con diabetes mellitus?. La metodología usada se basó en la Nutrición Basada en Evidencia (NuBE). Se recopiló información de bases de datos como Pubmed, Embase, Scielo, Dialnet, Scopus y Google académico, y se encontró 183 artículos, de los cuales se seleccionaron 30 para evaluarse mediante el CASPE. Luego fueron seleccionados dos artículos, el primer artículo fue de revisión bibliográfica y el segundo artículo fue de metaanálisis, relacionados con el objetivo de la investigación. Ambos artículos poseen un nivel de evidencia AI y Grado de recomendación Fuerte, según la experiencia del investigador.
