Critical Review: effects of oral omega-3 supplementation on inflammatory markers in adult patients with chronic kidney disease

Abstract

Nutrition is crucial in the treatment of patients when performed timely and adequately. The objective of this secondary research, critical review: Impact of oral supplementation with omega-3 on inflammatory markers in adult patients with chronic kidney disease, was to determine its effect on inflammatory biomarkers. What is the impact of oral supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids on inflammatory markers in patients with chronic kidney disease? was the clinical question. The methodology used was Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE). Data collection was conducted on PubMed and the virtual health library, resulting in 30 articles, of which 10 underwent critical reading using the CASPE instrument. The clinical trial titled 'Oral supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids and inflammation markers in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis' was selected, and due to the investigator's expertise, it had a level of evidence AI and a strong degree of recommendation. The critical review concluded that omega-3 supplementation has a significant impact on reducing inflammatory markers like IL-6, TNF-alpha, and CRP.

La nutrición es crucial dentro del tratamiento de los pacientes, si se realiza de manera oportuna y adecuada. El objetivo de esta investigación secundaria, revisión crítica: Impacto de la suplementación oral con omega 3 sobre los marcadores inflamatorios en pacientes adultos con enfermedad renal crónica, fue determinar el efecto de esta sobre los biomarcadores inflamatorios. ¿Cuál es el impacto de la suplementación oral con ácidos grasos omega 3 sobre los marcadores inflamatorios en pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica? fue la interrogante clínica. Se seleccionó como metodología a usar Nutrición Basada en la Evidencia (NuBE). La investigación de datos se llevó a cabo en PubMed y biblioteca virtual de salud, hallándose 30 artículos; de los cuales 10 pasaron por instrumento de lectura crítica CASPE, escogiéndose el ensayo clínico titulado Oral supplementation with omega 3 fatty acids an inflammation markers in patients with chronic kidney disease in hemodialysis, el cual dada la expertise del investigador, tiene un nivel de evidencia AI y un fuerte grado de recomendación. En el comentario crítico, se llegó a la conclusión que la suplementación oral con ácidos grasos omega-3 tiene un impacto significativo en la disminución de marcadores inflamatorios como IL-6, TNF-alfa y PCR.
