Knowledge and practices of self-care in older adults with arterial hypertension from a national hospital in Lima, 2023

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to address a health problem that affects our elderly worldwide, bringing with it multiple organic complications if the patient does not carry out an adequate self-care practice. The main objective is to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and self-care practices in older adults with arterial hypertension at a National Hospital in Lima. A deductive method study was carried out with a quantitative approach, a non-experimental design of a correlational type. It consists of two instruments; the first questionnaire of knowledge about arterial hypertension has 5 dimensions and contains 21 items with dichotomous answers YES or NO, validity by expert judgment and AIKEN V coefficient with a value of 0.97, reliability through the test of Kuder - Richardson obtaining a coefficient of 0.72. The second questionnaire on self-care practices has 3 dimensions and 23 items, with a Likert scale response, validity was by expert judgment and a V AIKEN coefficient of 0.99, while reliability was through the Alpha Coefficient test. Cronbach obtaining a coeficiente of 0.76.

El propósito de esta investigación es abordar una problemática de salud que afecta a nuestro adulto mayor a nivel mundial, trayendo consigo múltiples complicaciones orgánicas si el paciente no lleva una adecuada práctica de autocuidado. El objetivo principal es determinar la relación que existe entre el nivel de conocimiento y prácticas del autocuidado en adultos mayores con hipertensión arterial de un Hospital Nacional de Lima. Se realizó un estudio de método deductivo con enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental de tipo correlacional. Consta de dos instrumentos, el primero cuestionario de conocimiento sobre hipertensión arterial tiene 5 dimensiones y contiene 21 ítems con respuesta dicotómicas SI o NO, validez por juicio de expertos y coeficiente V AIKEN con un valor de 0.97, la confiabilidad a través de la prueba de Kuder – Richardson obteniendo un coeficiente de 0.72. El segundo cuestionario sobre prácticas de autocuidado tiene 3 dimensiones y 23 ítems, con respuesta en escala de Likert, la validez fue por juicio de expertos y coeficiente V AIKEN de 0.99, mientras que la confiabilidad fue a través de la prueba de Coeficiente de Alfa de Cronbach obteniendo un coeficiente de 0.76
