Overload level and coping strategies in the main caregiver of patients with schizophrenia in a hospital in Lima, 2020.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines schizophrenia as a disorder with impaired mental function, severely hindering introspection and the ability to face ordinary life demands or maintain contact with reality. According to the Ministry of Health (MINSA), in 2018, 65.4% of outpatient consultations at the National Institute of Mental Health were for patients aged 20-44 years, with women being more frequent, although 55.8% were men who sought treatment for schizophrenia, making it the most common diagnosis in that area. Objective: To determine the relationship between caregiver burden and coping strategies in primary caregivers of patients with schizophrenia at a hospital in Lima, 2020. Materials and methods: This is a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional study of the causal-correlational type. Data collection will involve a survey using the Zarit caregiver burden scale and the Coping Strategy Inventory (CSI).

La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), define a la esquizofrenia como un trastorno con función mental deteriorado, obstaculizando marcadamente la introspección y la capacidad para enfrentar algunas exigencias ordinarias de la vida o sostener contacto con la realidad. La situación actual en el Perú según reportes del Ministerio de Salud (MINSA), en el 2018 hubo 65,4% de atenciones por consultorio externo del Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental entre las edades de 20 a 44 años siendo mayor en mujeres pero el 55,8% son varones que acuden por esquizofrenia siendo el diagnóstico más frecuente de atención en dicha área. El objetivo del estudio es determinar la relación del nivel de sobrecarga y las estrategias de afrontamiento en cuidador principal de pacientes con esquizofrenia de un hospital de Lima, 2020. Material y métodos: El presente estudio es cuantitativo no experimental de diseño transversal del tipo correlacionales causales. En el proceso de recolección de datos se empleara como técnica la encuesta mediante el cuestionario de escala de sobrecarga de Zarit y el inventario de estrategia de afrontamiento (CSI).
