Knowledge and practices on the administration of inotropic drugs by nurses from the emergency service of the Santa Gema de Yurimaguas hospital, 2022

Abstract

Introduction: medication administration is one of the most crucial responsibilities of nurses because they are in charge of the preparation and administration of high-alert medications that affect the patient's cardiovascular and hemodynamic functions. To ensure the safety and efficacy of drug therapy, emergency room nurses must have a thorough understanding and proper practice of inotropes. Likewise, they must evaluate each patient before administering a drug, delay it or suspend it if necessary. Just as important, nurses need the skills to be able to administer a medication and maximize the drug's effectiveness. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge and practices on the administration of inotropic drugs by nurses from the emergency service of the Santa Gema de Yurimaguas hospital, 2022. Methods: The study will be observational, correlational and cross-sectional. The population and sample will be made up of 50 nursing professionals who belong to the emergency service of a Yurimaguas hospital in the year 2022. To collect the data, two questionnaires will be used to determine the level of knowledge and the level of practice. For data analysis, the statistical package SPSS will be used.

Introducción: la administración de medicamentos es una de las responsabilidades más cruciales de los enfermeros porque ellos son encargados de la preparación y administración de medicamentos de alta alerta que afectan funciones cardiovasculares y hemodinámicas del paciente. Para garantizar la seguridad y eficacia de la terapia farmacológica, los enfermeros de emergencias deben tener un conocimiento profundo y una práctica adecuada de los inotrópicos. Asimismo, deben evaluar a cada paciente antes de administrar un fármaco, retrasarlo o suspenderlo si es necesario. Igual de importante, los enfermeros necesitan las habilidades para poder administrar un medicamento y maximizar la efectividad del fármaco. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre los conocimientos y las prácticas sobre la administración de medicamentos inotrópicos por enfermeros del servicio de emergencias del hospital Santa Gema de Yurimaguas, 2022. Métodos: El estudio será observacional, correlacional y transversal. La población y muestra estará conformada por 50 profesionales de enfermería que pertenecen al servicio de emergencias de un hospital de Yurimaguas en el año 2022. Para recolectar los datos, se emplearán dos cuestionarios para determinar el nivel de conocimiento y el nivel de práctica de la administración de medicamentos inotrópicos. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizará el paquete estadístico SPSS.
