Balance and gait performance in post-stroke adult hemiplegic patients evaluated at home, year 2022

Abstract

A hemiplegic patient after a stroke presents impaired balance and performance in walking long distances, which affects their functional performance. The assessment of these aspects during the rehabilitation process by specialists in Neurorehabilitation and related fields is important as they are considered predictive of functionality, allowing the establishment of work tools both in the clinical setting and at home. This study will use the hypothetical-deductive method with a quantitative approach. The type of research will be applied, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational. The study will be conducted with hemiplegic stroke patients, using the Berg Balance Scale and the 6-Minute Walk Test to assess balance and walking performance, respectively.

El paciente hemipléjico post accidente cerebrovascular presenta compromiso en la capacidad de mantener el equilibrio y en el rendimiento para caminar distancias largas repercutiendo en su desempeño funcional. La valoración de estos aspectos en el proceso rehabilitador por los especialistas en Neurorrehabilitación y afines son de importancia ya que se consideran predictivos de funcionalidad permitiendo establecer herramientas de trabajo tanto en el entorno clínico como en sus domicilios. En el presente estudio se empleará el método hipotético-deductivo con un enfoque cuantitativo, el tipo de investigación será de tipo aplicada y de diseño no experimental, transversal y alcance correlacional. El estudio será aplicado en pacientes hemipléjicos post accidente cerebrovascular y se utilizarán la Escala de equilibrio de Berg y Prueba de caminata de 6 minutos para valorar el equilibrio y rendimiento de la marcha respectivamente.
