Relationship between knowledge level and attitude towards HIV/AIDS infection in 4th and 5th-year high school students at Daniel Alomía Robles School No. 113 in San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima – 2019

Abstract

Objective: Determine the relationship between level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS infection in 4th grade students. and 5th. secondary school of the Daniel Alomía Robles Educational Institution N° 113 of the San Juan de Lurigancho district, Lima - 2019. Materials and Methods: The research work had a quantitative approach, descriptive - correlational and cross-sectional. With a sample of 339 4th grade students. and 5th. high school. The “HIV/AIDS Scale-65” was used, which measures the variables knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS infection. Results: A low level of knowledge was obtained with 53.1% and with a minimum difference of 46.9% at a high level; Thus, its two dimensions were also presented: 65.5% had a low level of knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission and 78.2% had erroneous knowledge; There was also 52.5% of negative attitude towards HIV/AIDS infection and 47.5% of positive attitude with its following dimensions: The affective attitude presented 55.2% of negative attitude; the cognitive, 82.6% positive attitude and, finally, the behavioral, 60.2% negative attitude. Conclusions: There is a strong relationship between the variables with statistically significant evidence, that is, the lower the level of knowledge there will be a negative attitude.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre nivel de conocimiento y actitud frente a la infección por VIH/SIDA en estudiantes de 4to. y 5to. de secundaria de la Institución Educativa Daniel Alomía Robles N° 113 del distrito de San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima - 2019. Materiales y Métodos: El trabajo de investigación fue de enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo – correlacional y corte transversal. Con una muestra de 339 estudiantes de 4to. y 5to. de secundaria. Se utilizó la “Escala de VIH/SIDA-65” que mide las variables conocimiento y actitud frente a la infección por VIH/SIDA. Resultados: Se obtuvo un nivel bajo de conocimiento con un 53,1% y con una mínima diferencia del 46,9% de nivel alto; así también se presentaron sus dos dimensiones: 65,5% de nivel bajo de conocimiento de la transmisión por VIH/SIDA y 78,2% en conocimientos erróneos; también se presentó 52,5% de actitud negativa frente a la infección por VIH/SIDA y 47,5% de actitud positiva con sus siguientes dimensiones: La afectiva presento 55,2% de actitud negativa; la cognitiva, 82,6% de actitud positiva y, por último, la conductual, 60,2% de actitud negativa. Conclusiones: Existe una relación fuerte entre las variables con evidencia estadísticamente significativa, es decir, a menor nivel de conocimiento habrá una actitud negativa.
