Effectiveness of the neonatal metabolic screening program for early detection of congenital hypothyroidism in newborns

Abstract

Objective: to systematize the evidence about the effectiveness of the neonatal metabolic screening program for the early detection of congenital hypothyroidism in newborns. Materials and Methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review, which synthesizes the results of multiple primary investigations. Of the systematic review of 10 articles, 80% were descriptive and 20% were systematic reviews. They are an essential part of evidence-based nursing due to their rigorous methodology, identifying relevant studies to answer specific questions of clinical practice, the search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the selected articles were subjected to critical reading. using the grade system to assign recommendation strength. Results:. 20% of articles found evidence of effectiveness, showing high levels of sensitivity and specificity. 70% of articles found evidence of effectiveness, showing adequate cut-off points for the prevalence of the disease and low recall rates. 10% of articles found evidence of effectiveness, showing good prognoses for mental development in newborns detected early. Conclusions: The review of the 10 articles shows the effectiveness of the neonatal screening program for congenital hypothyroidism.

Objetivo: sistematizar la evidencia acerca de la efectividad del programa de tamizaje metabólico neonatal para la detección precoz del hipotiroidismo congénito en recién nacidos. Materiales y Métodos: Revisión Sistemática observacional y retrospectivo, que sintetiza los resultados de múltiples investigaciones primarias. De la revisión sistemática de 10 artículos, el 80% fueron descriptivos y el 20% revisiones sistemáticas. Son parte esencial de la enfermería basada en la evidencia por su rigurosa metodología, identificando los estudios relevantes para responder preguntas específicas de la práctica clínica, la búsqueda se ha restringido a artículos con texto completo, y los artículos seleccionados se sometieron a una lectura crítica, utilizando el sistema grade para asignar la fuerza de recomendación. Resultados:. El 20% de artículos encontró evidencia de la efectividad, al mostrar elevados nivele de sensibilidad y especificidad. El 70% de artículos encontró evidencia de la efectividad, al mostrar puntos de corte adecuados para la prevalencia de la enfermedad y tasas de re-llamada bajas.
